New timeline for water-forged terrain on Mars proposed, days before Perseverance rover landing

Scientists are exploring the theory that Mars was once habitable. The Jezero Crater is thought to have hosted an ancient lake.

Perseverance will land in the Jezero Crater, in February 2021, which is thought to have once been a water-filled lake 3.5 million years ago.

Nasa has shortlisted three landing sites for the Mars 2020 rover

The landing sites have been narrowed down after a Nasa workshop to Columbia Hills at the Gusev Crater, the Jezero Crater and the NE Syrtis.
