Hathras case: UP Police files 5,000-page charge-sheet against journalist Siddique Kappan, seven others
The police claimed Kappan was arrested because he was going to Hathras, where a 19-year old Dalit girl was gang-raped and murdered, "to breach the peace" as part of a "conspiracy"
Kappan was arrested on 5 October while on the way to Hathras, home to the young Dalit woman who died after being gang-raped, allegedly by four upper-caste men
The Dalit woman was allegedly raped by four upper-caste men in Hathras on 14 September. She had died on 29 September at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital during treatment
The civil rights body also demanded security for the family and their rehabilitation through the Nirbhaya Fund. It also said that the name of PFI has been dragged into the case to create a Hindu-Muslim chasm and divert attention
