Up, up and away: As Blue Origin makes its sixth flight, how much does space tourism cost and will it ever be affordable?
After a number of flights into space by SpaceX, Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic in the last one year and several more lined up, one thing is certain: space tourism is finally taking off. But, with prices running into hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions, will it ever be affordable?
The white spacecraft called New Shepard lifted off with a roar from a desert spot in west Texas at 8.26 local time (1326 GMT)
Jeff Bezos offered actor Tom Hanks a seat on Blue Origin's spaceflight for "28 million bucks or something"
He didn't need to spend 28 million dollars to get the experience of being in a space flight but would perhaps do it if it were free, just to feel the joy of “pretending" to be a billionaire.
Blue Origin plans to launch private space station for commerce and research, can house 10 people at one time
According to a fact sheet released by Blue Origin, Orbital Reef will fly at an altitude of 500 kilometers (310 miles), slightly above the ISS, with inhabitants experiencing 32 sunrises and sunsets a day.
Hollywood’s Captain Kirk, 90-year-old William Shatner, blasted into space Wednesday in a convergence of science fiction and science reality, reaching the final frontier aboard a ship built by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin company.
Shatner became the oldest person in space, eclipsing the previous record — set by a passenger on a similar jaunt on a Bezos spaceship in July — by eight years

At high g-forces, blood can be pulled away from the head which can starve the brain of oxygen and lead to visual changes including tunnel vision, loss of colour or complete loss of vision.
Blue Origin to launch actor William Shatner, three others today at 7.30 pm IST: How to watch it live
New Shepard launches to an altitude of roughly 101 km, a widely recognized marker of where space begins and known as the Kármán line and the full mission lasts about 10 minutes.
William Shatner is all set to fly on Blue Origin's next human spaceflight on October 12
"I've heard about space for a long time now. I'm taking the opportunity to see it for myself. What a miracle," said the 90-year-old actor in a statement
While Blue Origin did reveale the names of two members of the four-person crew it did not confirm whether William Shatner would be on the flight.
Elon Musk's SpaceX has four private space tours - Inspiration4, AX-1, space adventure and dearMoon - lined up with various private players travelling to the moon or orbiting the earth.
Blue Origin’s mission comes on the heels of its growing feud with NASA with the company filing a lawsuit against the agency over the Artemis 3 mission.
The bidders said that the evaluation process was unfair and that NASA should award more than one contract when SpaceX won the human landing system contract worth $2.9 billion.
The finding is a blow in particular to Blue Origin, which was seen as the second strongest bid.
The human landing system contract is worth $2.9 billion and Bezos said "this offer is not a deferral, but is an outright permanent waiver."
First tickets sold by Virgin Galactic were sold for $200,000 to $250,000 each, but the cost for future sales will go up.
On Tuesday, Earth's wealthiest person Jeff Bezos and a crew of three others blasted off and spent a mere three minutes in space.
Tyson had also said that neither Branson nor Bezos actually went to space since it was just a suborbital flight.
