TDP to pull out of Narendra Modi's NDA government; Centre failed to meet demand for special status to Andhra Pradesh, says Chandrababu Naidu
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), a key ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), decided to pull out of the Narendra Modi government after the Centre ruled out Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh, among other demands.
On and off squabbling between allies Telugu Desam Party and BJP was one of the notable political features in Andhra Pradesh in 2017.
In a significant development, popular Telugu actor and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan said he will not mind having an alliance with the Aam Admi Party (AAP).
Naidu had stated on Thursday that the alliance is proving costly for the TDP as the BJP has fielded weak candidates from majority of the 15 assembly and five Lok Sabha constituencies.
The BJP-TDP alliance has gained the upper hand in Seemandhra. But the BJP is in the happy position of choosing from among the other Telugu parties even if this alliance loses.
