Ex Maharashtra sports minister Ashish Shelar files nomination for BFI president's post, says will win elections with 70 percent votes
During a media interaction in New Delhi, Shelar said that he and his team had met virtually every state unit in the run-up to the much-delayed elections and have noted their dissatisfaction with the current dispensation headed by Ajay Singh.
The process has been due since September last year but postponed twice citing the COVID-19 pandemic. The delay eventually led to the Uttar Pradesh Amateur Boxing Association seeking Delhi High Court's intervention in the matter.
The AGM was to take place at the federation headquarters in Gurugram but "a majority of the state associations" sought a postponement citing the pandemic.
The BFI is currently led by Ajay Singh, owner of airline company Spicejet. He took charge in 2016 following elections conducted under the supervision of the International Boxing Association.
