Former Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews became the sixth cricketer from his country to play 100 Tests on Sunday as the hosts won the toss and elected to bat against Pakistan in the second Test, at Galle.
Mathews made his Test debut in 2009 under former captain Kumara Sangakkara in Galle,.13 years later, he is all set to play his 100th Test against the same opponent at the same venue.
Veteran all-rounder Mathews is the first Sri Lankan cricketer to win the award since its inception in January 2021 while spin sensation Hassan is the first female Pakistani cricketer to join the elite club.
Mathews remained unbeaten on 58 after de Silva went out with the same score to take Sri Lanka to 282-5 at stumps on the third day, still trailing Bangladesh by 83 runs.
