Holder: The ball came out really well for me at the start, also got some good bounce. I just concentrated on bowling in the right areas. Thee track was a bit slow, but I was happy to get some movement. It was a must-win and we were able to accomplish it. We had to show the intent and try to finish the game before 36 overs, which we were able to achieve.

Tauqir: When West Indies put us into bat, they took good advantage of the bowling conditions. 40 odd for 6 was tough to recover from, but Nasir and Amjad batted well in the end. Amjad has been very consistent for us throughout the tournament, both with the bat and ball. So some positives from this World Cup. We have the T20 World Cup qualification ahead of us in July. It was a decent performance from us in this World Cup and a good learning experience.

That’s it! West Indies beat UAE by 6 wickets!

A big West Indies win means that they are through to the quarters unless Pakistan vs Ireland is a tie. Ramdin hits the winning runs as he flicks one over mid-wicket and runs a single. Carter remains unbeaten on 58 while Ramdin stays not out on 33. The platform was laid by Holder and Taylor who ripped throuh UAE top order. Javed and Aziz led UAE’S fightback with a 107-run stand and helped them to some respectability posting 175. Chasing the targes, Charles provided a brisk start and Charles continued the momentum to help West Indies chase well inside 36.2 overs needed to get their run rate above Pakistan.

After 25 overs, West Indies 152/4 (Carter 46, Ramdin 15)

West Indies need to up the ante now. Rain is forecast at 5 pm local time and it’s already 4.53. They are dealing in just singles, Just 2 fours in the last five overs. 25/0 in the last five overs. Carter has moved on to 46 and played some brilliant shots. West Indies need just 24 runs.

After 20 overs, West Indies 127/4 (Carter 34, Ramdin 3)

Things have slowed down after Charles’ departure. Russell’s promotion didn’t help the cause as he hit just a single ‘huge’ six. Javed has bowled really well and picked up two wickets. He’s having a fantastic day. Carter has played some sumptuous cover drives and he hits another one off Aziz in the 19th over. West Indies don’t need to go bang, bang. This can be done easily. Javed’s figures read – 3-0-6-2. 19/2 in the last five overs.

OUT! Javed gets another wicket. Russell departs! A Russell c & b Amjad Javed 7 (8b 0x4 1×6), After 17.2 overs, West Indies 118/4 (Carter 28)

Russell top edges his pull & is caught & bowled. Short on off from Javed, Russell rocks back and looks for a pull but gets a top edge high in the air, Javed settles under it and grabs it.

Denesh Ramdin is the new batsman.

OUT! Javed is having a pretty good day! He removes the set Charles. J Charles c Krishna Chandran b Amjad Javed 55 (40b 9×4 2×6), After 15.2 overs, West Indies 109/3 (Carter 26)

Good length delivery outside off, a touch wide. Charles looks to heave across the line but getsa top edge to mid on where Krishna takes a good catch. A very good innings comes to an end.

Andre Russellis promoted up the order.

After 15 overs, West Indies 109/2 (Charles 55, Carter 26)

Charles has grown from strength to strength. He’s played well in that covers region. He cracks a couple of lovely fours off Naveed and then follows up with another one off Guruge. Carter joins the party with a couple of crunching fours off Tauqir in one over and then smokes him through extra cover for another four in his next over. UAE then lose a review as there is a huge LBW shout turned down against Carter. It was a flighted delivery outside off, went straight on. carter looked to cut it late but missed. The umpire turns down the appeal. UAE take the review but replays show that the impact was umpire’s call. 40/0 in the last five overs. West Indies going at a good rate.

After 10 overs, West Indies 69/2 (Charles 37, Carter 6)

While a couple of wickets have fallen at the other end, Charles is playing on a different pitch it seems. He smacked Guruge – wo was bowling pretty well- over long on for six and then after the wicket of Samuels, he hammered Guruge through mid off for a boundary. Carter has been cautious so far. Guruge nearly gets another wicket as Carter chips one just over the leaping mid-wicket fielder. Charles then again crashes one through covers off Guruge for a boundary. The runs are coming and West Indies need to do this sensibly rather than panic! 32/1 in the last five overs.

OUT! Guruge gets a deserved wicket. M Samuels c Berenger b Guruge 9 (18b 1×4 0x6), After 7.4 overs, West Indies 53/2 (Charles 29)

Guruge has bowled beautifully so far and he gets his man. It’s a touch short outside off, Samuels stays in his crease and cuts it powerfully but straight to Berenger at point. A soft dismissal!

Jonathan Carter is the new batsman.

After 5 overs, West Indies 37/1 (Charles 22. Samuels 0)

Though West Indies have lost Smith, they are off to a breezy start. Charles is looking ominous. The trick of opening the bowling with off -spinner Aziz didn’t work as he was hammered for 26 runs in his two overs by Smith and Charles, a four and a six each for both. Guruge is brought back and he strikes straight away to remove Smith and then beats Samuels’ outside edge on a couple occasions. Charles then crashes one through point for four off Naveed.

OUT! Guruge strikes off the 1st ball of his spell. DR Smith c Patil b Guruge 15 (9b 1×4 1×6) , After 3.1 overs, West Indies 33/1 (Charles 18)

Good length delivery outside off, a touch wide and shaping in. Smith goes hard at his slash but gets an inside edge to the keeper. They all go up in an appeal and the umpire lifts his finger.

Marlon Samuels is the new batsman.

That’s it! UAE all out for 175 from 47.4 overs!

OUT! Taylor cleans up Tauqir with a very full delivery.

UAE have fought back well to post on the board. They were down in the dumps at one stage at 46/6 but then Aziz and Javed got together and steadied the ship with a 107-run stand. The innings was all about that stand as the pair stabilised and then upped the ante. Holder bowled 10 overs on the tort and finished with 10-1-27-4. Taylr too scalped a couple of wickets at the start. But West Indies were listless in the middle and they didn’t kill it off. Taylor then finished off the innings with the final wicket and ended with three wickets.West Indies need to get these runs as quickly as possible……

After 45 overs, UAE 170/9 (Tauqir 2, Guruge 1)

West Indies have bounced back really well in the last five overs. They have broken the marathon 107- run stand between Aziz and Javed and sent both the set batsmen back in the hut. 18 runs for the loss of three wickets in the last five overs. The men from Caribbean would be looking to wrap this up as soon as possible with just one wicket remaining. UAE, on the other hand, would be looking to play out their full quota of overs.

OUT! Big blow for UAE! Aziz departs! Nasir Aziz c Holder b Samuels 60 (86b 8×4 0x6), After 43.4 overs, UAE 167/9 (Tauqir 0)

It’s a tough flighted from Samuels, outside off, Aziz charges down the track and loks to go inside out but doesn’t get the elevation and hits it straight to Holder at extra cover. A fine innings comes to an end. 60 off 86 balls and he gets a standing ovation as he departs.

Guruge is the last man in.

OUT! Russell gets his 2nd wicket. Mohammad Naveed b Russell 14 (9b 1×4 1×6) . After 42.1 overs, UAE 167/8 (Aziz 60)

It’s very full on middle, Naveed stays in his crease and looks to turn it to the leg side but is beaten by the pace. He misses and the ball crashes onto the stumps.

Mohammed Tauqir is the new batsman.

OUT! Russell finally breaks the 107-run stand! Amjad Javed b Russell 56 (99b 7×4 1×6) , After 40.3 overs, UAE 153/7 (Aziz 60)

Good change of pace from Russell. It’s a slower delivery on middle and off, Javed goes for a wild swing but is done in by the change of pace. He gets a slight inside edge onto the stumps. He gets a rousing applause as he walks off.

Mohammed Naveed is the new batsman.

After 40 overs, UAE 152/6 (Javed 56, Aziz 59)

A very good Batting Powerplay for UAE – 31/0 during that period. 152/6 after 40 overs. Six fours were hit during the Batting Powerplay, three of them in one over of Roach. Both Javed and Aziz have reached their respective fifties. It’s been a brilliant recovery from these two and they are playing some brilliant shots. West Indies have been frustrated and they need to break this partnership as soon as possible.

After 35 overs, UAE 121/6 ( Javed 41, Aziz 43)

While Samuels is operating from one end, medium pacers are bowling form the other. Javed gets the lone boundary of the last five overs as he cuts Samuels through backward point. Else, both the batsmen are assured in their defenses and taking singles easily. Both the batsmen have moved into the 40s and the partnership is now 75* . Sammy looked unhappy with something and it looked like he was unhappy with the fact that he was taken out of the attack by Holder. Javed hit a couple powefully but straight to the fielder. Just 13 runs off the last five overs. It’s Batting Powerplay time now and we can expect UAE to up the ante.

After 30 overs, UAE 108/6 (Aziz 37, Javed 34)

UAE slowly upping the ante. Aziz is the main aggressor. He is commanding on his pulls as he cracks a couple of powerful boundaries off Roach in the 26th over. The 50-stand also comes up. Javed then brings up UAE’s 100 with a crashing cover drive. 21 runs scored off the last 5 overs. Spin is in operation from one end in form of Samuels. The bowlers aren’t getting much assistance now. It’s been easy for the batsmen an they are taking singles easily and hitting the odd boundary off a loose ball. Good sensible stuff.

After 25 overs, UAE 87/6 (Javed 28, Aziz 24)

A small partnership developing between Aziz and Javed. But the danger is not clear yet as Aziz is living on the edge. He gets an outside edge on his drive off Roach but Holder at 1st slip drops a tough catch which runs away for four. Roach induces another edge in his next over but it flies wide of the slip cordon for another streaky boundary. Amjad, meanwhile, is content with singles. 15 runs in the last five overs. But most importantly, no wickets lost in that period! Russell is bowling stump to stump lines and has two maidens from four overs so far.

After 20 overs, UAE 72/6 (Javed 27, Aziz 11)

Javed is playing sensible cricket. Not taking too many risks. Getting singles and then bludgeoning an odd boundary. He cuts one powerfully off Roach for a four and then bludgeons one through mid on off Russell. Aziz, meanwhile, has been a bit scratchy. He would have handed Holder his 5th wicket but replays found that Sammy had grassed the catch at third slip. He then went for a wild swing but got a top edge over the keeper for a streaky four. 25/0 in the last 6 overs.

After 14 overs, UAE 47/6 ( Javed 13, Aziz 0)

Just when it looked like UAE were starting to weather the storm, Holder struck to remove Swapnil. Javed and Swapnil were playing sensibly and had an assured defense. They weren’t looking to play across the line – a mistake which other batsmen committed. Javed hit one lusty blow out of the blue over deep mid-wicket for a six off Taylor but then calmed down. Holder then produced a beauty to remove Swapnil. 11/1 in the last five overs. Javed is the key from here on. He needs to be sensible along with Aziz.

OUT! Holder gets his 4th wicket. SP Patil b Holder 6 (20b 0x4 0x6), After 13.5 overs, UAE 46/6 ( Javed 13)

This is a brilliant display of fast bowling from Holder. Length delivery outside off, it nips back in viciously. Swapnil looks to push but leaves a big gap between the bat and pad, he misses and the ball shatters the timber.

Nasir Aziz is the new batsman.

Preview: The two-time champion West Indies will have to overcome tempestuous weather and their own turbulent form to beat the United Arab Emirates on Sunday if they are to advance to the quarterfinals of the Cricket World Cup. The West Indies must win their final match in Pool B at McLean Park to keep their chances of qualifying alive, then watch the match between Pakistan and Ireland in Adelaide later in the day to see if their efforts have been enough. [caption id=“attachment_2154487” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![File picture of Darren Sammy (R) and Lendl Simmons. Getty](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Simmons-Sammy-vs-Ireland-Getty.jpg) File picture of Darren Sammy (R) and Lendl Simmons. Getty[/caption] The weather may be a greater threat to their quarterfinal prospects than the UAE squad, which is without a win from five games. Tropical Cycling Pam is bearing down on New Zealand and rain is forecast on Sunday, threatening a washout which would leave the Windies one point outside the top four in Pool B. “Obviously we just need to win this game,” West Indies captain Jason Holder said. “The weather is beyond our control and we need to control what we can control, that’s the game. Holder said key batsman Chris Gayle, who has the tournament’s top score of 215 but has been troubled this week by a back injury, would be fit to play Sunday and the West Indies will be at full strength. The young captain, whose leadership has been tested by his team’s fluctuating form, said the do-or-die contest in the West Indies’ final pool match was not ideal, but the team could build confidence with a commanding win. “Ideally I think any team would have liked to have qualified by now but that’s not the case for us,” Holder said. “We’ve been a little bit up and down at the tournament. “Having said that, I have full confidence in the guys being able to come out tomorrow and produce what is needed.” After a loss to Ireland in their first match at the World Cup, the Windies got two impressive wins over Pakistan and Zimbabwe, then faltered badly by conceding 408-5 and losing to South Africa by 257 runs. The team also had a four-wicket loss to India. “I can’t really look back and say we’ve been horrible here or horrible there,” Holder said. “But what is important is that we forget about the past, learn from it and focus all of our energies into this game tomorrow.” It will help the Windies’ chances of qualifying if the squad can win quickly Sunday and improve its net run-rate. “Obviously, it’s ideal that we wrap it up as quickly as possible, but we still have to play the cricket and to win on merit is the best way to do it,” Holder said. The United Arab Emirates will play its final match of the tournament Sunday, having accumulated a great deal of experience playing the sport’s top-ranked sides. Captain Mohammad Tauqir said his players had prepared well and were positive they could end the tournament on a high. “The West Indies are a very unpredictable side and they heavily rely on Chris Gayle so we can see some opportunities playing against them tomorrow, but we need to bowl well, we need field well,” he said. “They are a good side but we would like to see an unpredictable West Indies side tomorrow.” AP
