In a shocking and heartbreaking incident, 25-year-old Radhika Yadav, a state-level tennis player from Haryana, was allegedly shot dead by her own father on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred at the family home in Gurugram’s Sector 57, reported The Hindu and Times of India. Radhika was shot at five times, of which three rounds struck, following which she was taken to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The police have reportedly taken the accused into custody and the weapon has also been recovered. This tragedy has stunned the Indian sports community and once again highlighted the safety concerns regarding women and girls in Haryana.
“Tennis player Radhika was shot dead with three bullets in Sector 57, Gurugram. The father has been accused of murder, and the bullets were fired from his licensed revolver. Gurugram Police has arrested the accused father, and a case is being registered,” Sandeep Kumar, PRO Gurugram, told ANI.

Radhika Yadav was born on 23 March 2000 and was among the top tennis players in her state. According to Business Standard, she achieved a career-best 113th rank in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) doubles. Within Haryana, she was placed 5th in women’s doubles.

According to the Gurugram Police, Radhika’s father allegedly shot her three times with his licensed revolver following an argument over a social media reel she had posted. The disagreement reportedly escalated quickly, leading to the violent act. It is still unclear what exactly the reel contained but reports suggest that it was about her tennis academy.
