Legendary tennis player Novak Djokovic has opened up about his recovery after a tough 2025 season. He was aiming for his record 25th Grand Slam title this year but only managed to reach the semifinals in all four majors. Djokovic was also hoping to win his 101st career title, but that will have to wait for now.
He recently finished fourth at the Six Kings Slam after retiring from his match against Taylor Fritz. The Serbian star lost a long and tough first set 7-6 in 75 minutes before he decided to stop due to physical problems. Djokovic is likely dealing with a groin injury he first felt at the Shanghai Masters.
Despite the disappointment in Riyadh, Djokovic is now focused on recovery. He plans to rest and regain full fitness over the coming weeks and will probably skip next week’s Paris Masters, the last Masters 1000 event of the season. However, he is expected to play ATP 250 event in Athens and ATP Finals in Turin.
“Now it’s time to rest and really address some of the issues I have with my body. Then, hopefully, I can play the last couple of tournaments of the season. Let’s see,” Djokovic said after retiring in Riyadh.
Djokovic on his future plans
Despite his age, Djokovic has been the best player this year after Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The 38-year-old plans to continue playing as he recently said that he wants to see how far he can stretch his career, taking inspiration from global superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, and Tom Brady.
“Longevity is one of my biggest motivations. I really want to see how far I can go. If you see across all the global sports, LeBron James, he’s still going strong, he’s 40, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Tom Brady played till he was 40-something years old. I mean, it’s unbelievable. They’re inspiring me as well. So I want to keep going and that’s one of the motivations I have,” he said.
