American tennis star Danielle Collins was a notable absentee from the 2026 Australian Open list and now she has revealed the reason behind her absence from season’s first Grand Slam.
The 31-year-old last featured in the US Open in August where she lost to Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian in the first round. She then took time off to recover from a back injury and now she has said that she is missing the Australian Open after undergoing an egg-freezing procedure.

The 2022 Australian Open finalist took to Instagram to give her fans an update about her missing the tournament.
“Wanted to come on here and give everyone a little update since everyone has been asking,” Collins wrote in her post. “I’ve been taking the last few months off to recover from the back injury I had at the end of the season. I’ve also been undergoing a few egg freezing procedures.”
“It’s been one of the coolest things I’ve honestly ever done! But at the same time these hormones I have had to be on are a real b****. I am so fortunate for the friends that have been helping take care of me during this time. I have one more procedure to go,” she added.
“With all of this, I will not be competing during the first part of the year,” she informed.
The American also revealed that she would be doing commentary for the tournament.
“But you will be seeing me in a different capacity with @tennischannel. This is all I will be sharing for now. More updates to come.”
Collins had also been in headlines after going on a dating partner hunt on Instagram following her split with boyfriend Bryan Kipp.
Earlier in 2024, she had announced that it would be her final season after she was diagnosed with endometriosis - a chronic condition. However, she came back the next year before going on a hiatus due to a back issue.
