PM Narendra Modi reveals having a 'great interaction' with Neeraj Chopra and wife Himani Mor at his residence

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted javelin star Neeraj Chopra and his wife, former tennis player Himani Mor, at his residence in New Delhi on Tuesday. Later in the day, Modi shared pictures of his interaction with the young couple at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg on his social media, describing it as a “great interaction” on various topics including sports.

“Met Neeraj Chopra and his wife, Himani Mor at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg earlier today. We had a great interaction on various issues including sports of course!” the Prime Minister wrote in a post on X.

Chopra had married former professional tennis player Mor at a private ceremony in Shimla in January. Their wedding had been kept under the wraps and was attended only by family members and close friends.

The two-time Olympic medallist is currently on a break from competition after a mixed run in 2025.

Chopra had conquered the 90-metre hurdle for the first time in his career during the Doha Diamond League, becoming only the third Asian and the 25th athlete overall to achieve the feat.

The 27-year-old, however, failed to secure a podium finish for the first time in seven years after a disappointing performance at the World Championships in Tokyo, the city where he had won a historic Olympic gold four years earlier.

Besides the world championships, the star athlete from Haryana had also missed out on the Diamond League trophy for the second year in a row, with Germany’s Julian Weber outshining him in the final in Zurich in August, shortly before the World Championships.

The year 2025 saw Chopra begin his journey with Czech javelin legend Jan Zelezny, a three-time Olympic gold medallist whose throw of 98.48m in 1996 remains a record to this day, having parted ways with Klaus Bartonietz at the end of the 2024 season.

Chopra also hosted the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru this year, marking the first international javelin event in India that offers gold-level ranking points to participating athletes. Chopra won the event with a best throw of 86.18m.
