Swapnil Kusale made India’s Paris Olympics 2024 campaign even more historic on Thursday as he won a bronze medal in the 50m 3 positions event. This is India’s first medal in the 50m 3 positions event at the Olympics. Swapnil’s bronze has taken India’s Paris 2024 medal tally to three with all the medals coming in shooting so far, which is also an Olympic record.

This is the first time India have won three medals in a single sport at one Olympics.

World record and China’s Liu Yukun won the gold in the event with a total of 463.6, while Ukraine’s Serhiy Kulish aggregated 461.3 to clinch the silver.

Kusale came third with a score of 451.4.

The Indian shooter’s record-breaking feat led to an outpouring of wishes and congratulatory messages on social media including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Exceptional performance by Swapnil Kusale! Congrats to him for winning the Bronze medal in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions at the #ParisOlympics2024. His performance is special because he’s shown great resilience and skills. He is also the first Indian athlete to win a medal in this category. Every Indian is filled with happiness,” PM Modi wrote on X.
