India’s javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra missed out on a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday and eventually clinched silver. The 26 year-old did not seem to be at his best as he struggled with his throws. Having said that, Neeraj only managed one legal throw , that of 89.45m which came in his second attempt, while his remaining throws all ended in foul throws.
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won gold, with an incredible throw of 92.97m that eventually became a new Olympic record . That was in his second attempt after enduring a foul throw in his first. Nadeem would once again breach the 90m mark later on in the final, throwing a distance of 91.79m in his final attempt.
Grenada’s Andersen Peters clinched bronze with a best throw of 88.54m to finish narrowly ahead of Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch (88.50m), the Tokyo Olympics silver medallist.
Ever since winning the gold at the Tokyo Olympics, there have been expectations from Neeraj to perform wherever he goes. And while gold was once again the target for Neeraj this time, it was not meant to be with Arshad proving to be far too superior.
