India at Paris Olympics Day 14 Highlights: Aman wins wrestling bronze medal, Vinesh's hearing at CAS ends

That’s all from our side for today’s coverage and we are super happy that it ends with Aman Sehrawat’s bronze in wrestling. Aditi Ashok And Diksha Dagar in golf Round 3 had a poor day slipping to T40 and T42 respectively and they will be back tomorrow for the final stage. The men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams failed to reach the finals.

The hearing of Vinesh Phogat’s appeal for joint silver at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) is over but there’s no clarity when the verdict will come.

Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar had a poor Round 3 in the women’s golf tournament on Friday. Aditi started at T14 and carded 7-over par to slip down to T40 with a total of 6-over 222.

Diksha also started at T14 and ended on T42 with a total of 7-over 223. She carded 8-over par.

“We have to respect the rules. I’m so sad what happened to her. She was overweight, even though by a small margin but rules are rules. The weigh-in is public and all the athletes are there. It’s impossible to let someone to compete who doesn’t make the weight,” Lalovic said.

On Vinesh getting a silver: “It is impossible because the brackets are changing. Everything is changing. And anyway, the rules are rules. Everybody who goes to these competitions knows they have a second weigh-in the next day.”

Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar slip in the rankings in the third round. Aditi and Diksha carded 1-under 143 at the end of the second round. In the third round, at the end of hole 14, Aditi has carded 6-over 62, including six bogeys and one double bogey. Diksha has carded 5-over 61, including five bogeys.

Four more holes to go in the third round.

Reetika Hooda will make her Olympic debut in the women’s 76kg freestyle category on Saturday. She will start her campaign with a match against eighth-seeded Bernadett Nagy of Hungary.

Reetika is a former U23 World Champion.

AP says an Egyptian Olympic wrestler was arrested Friday in Paris on sexual assault charges.

A 26-year-old athlete was detained early Friday after allegedly groping a woman from behind outside a Paris cafe, according to a statement from the Paris prosecutor’s office.

The office did not name the wrestler but said he was born in Egypt and was in Paris to compete in the Olympics.

The Egyptian wrestling federation did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Diksha Dagar is four-over after eight holes today. Three bogeys and five par attempts from her today and that has taken her down the leaderboard

Aditi Ashok is struggling as well with 4-over after nine holes. Two birdies her positive of the day. A double bogey on the seventh hole not helping her cause

Pakistan’s javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, who set an Olympic record enroute a gold medal, will be rewarded with a cash prize of 10 crore Pakistani Rupee (~ ₹3.01 crore), Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, Maryam Nawaz has announced.

Nawaz also said a sports city named after the athlete would be built in his hometown of Khanewal.

Arshad, who faced adversity and struggled to even buy a javelin, said in his first message to his parents from Paris that he is now determined to build a proper academy for athletes in or near his village.

“He was thankful to Allah for giving him so much glory and the one thing he said was that he hoped his olympic gold medal will now help in his endeavour to build a sports academy for athletes in his rural area,” his father Muhammad Arshad told PTI.
