 "Norway Chess 2025: Gukesh to take on Carlsen as organisers confirm final lineup")
The Norway Chess 2025 organisers on Tuesday confirmed that world champion D Gukesh, India’s No.1 Arjun Erigaisi and world No.1 Magnus Carlsen will be part of the final lineup. Completing the lineup at Norway Chess 2025 are World No. 2 Fabiano Caruana, World No. 3 Hikaru Nakamura and Chinese No.1 Wei Yi (World No.9).
Magnus Carlsen, who won the tournament in 2024, will look to defend his title at Norway Chess 2025 will take place at Stavanger from 29 May to 6 June.
Apart from Carlsen, Caruana and Nakamura are also returning from the 2024 lineup while the new additions include the youngest ever world chess champion Gukesh, Erigaisi and Wei Yi in place of Ding Liren, Alireza Firouzja and R Praggnanandhaa.
India’s 18-year-old Grandmaster Gukesh became the chess world champion last month by beating Ding in the World Chess Championship 2024 in Singapore.
The Norway Chess 2025 will be a tough test for Gukesh, who is currently world No.5. He will be up against the top three players in the classical format, including Carlsen, who has been the world No.1 since 2011 and won the world title five times before announcing in 2022 that he would not defend his crown.
Norway Chess 2025 Women Lineup
Earlier, it was announced that India’s No.1 female chess player Koneru Humpy will be part of the 2025 Norway Chess Women’s tournament . “It’s an honour to play in the prestigious Norway Chess Women tournament,” Humpy said on playing in Norway.
The women’s competition last year was won by reigning world champion Ju Wenjun of China.
Apart from Ju Wenjun, India’s R Vaishali, Anna Muzychuk and Sarasadat Khademalsharieh will be a part of the women’s tournament.

Tickets are available for purchase upon arrival at the venue, with no option for advance booking. The organisers also said that reservations won’t be required due to ample capacity at the venue.
