Veteran striker Sunil Chhetri made a comeback as the Indian football team coach, Khalid Jamil, on Sunday announced a 30-player probables list for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers Final Round Group C matches against Singapore in October. The Blue Tigers are in top form, having finished third on their debut in the CAFA Nations Cup 2025 on Monday.
India defeated a higher-ranked Oman in a penalty shootout to win the third-place playoff in Tajikistan. Earlier in the tournament, they also beat higher-ranked Tajikistan in the group stage.
Chhetri, 41, was not a part of the squad as India aimed to look for future stars in the central asian competition.
India vs Singapore in October
They now face Singapore in two back-to-back matches in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers Final Round Group C – on October 9, at the National Stadium, Singapore, and on October 14, at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Margao.
The preparatory camp for the Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers will begin in Bengaluru on September 20. The players will be reporting to the camp on September 19.
The Mohun Bagan Super Giant and FC Goa players, who have been shortlisted for the probables squad by coach Jamil, will be called up later, after their AFC Champions League Two engagements are over.
