India’s bid faced competition from Nigeria, which was supposed to take the CWG to Africa for the first time. However, it appears that Nigeria will now potentially get to host the 2034 edition of the Games.

Meanwhile, India last hosted the Commonwealth Games 20 years ago in New Delhi in 2010. As per reports, more than Rs 70,000 crore was spent to conduct the event in the national capital, an amount that far exceeded the initial estimate of Rs 1,600 crore.
