WWE superstar John Cena made a sensational return to the ring on Monday during WWE Raw’s Netflix debut and made a big announcement that he will be playing in the Royal Rumble match that will be held on 1 February. The 2025 Royal Rumble will kick-off the 16-time WWE world champion John Cena’s Farewell Tour.

Cena had announced his Farewell Tour during the Money in the Bank event in July 2024. The Royal Rumble provides Cena a chance to become a 17-time world champion, but according to the 47-year-old, that’s “never gonna happen”. John Cena also thanked Netflix for clinching WWE’s rights.  “Thank You, Netflix, for allowing the world to see the experience of Monday Night Raw,” he said.

Should Cena win the 30-man Royal Rumble match in February, he will get the opportunity to take part in the title clash at WrestleMania 41. Should he lose the Royal Rumble match, he will get another chance to make the title match at WrestleMania, by winning the Elimination Chamber matches.

On Monday, Cena asked fans who among Drew McIntyre, Gunther, Logan Paul, CM Punk and Cody Rhodes he should face at WrestleMania. The fans gave their support for either Cody Rhodes or CM Punk through loud cheers.

John Cena also spoke on the connection he has with Los Angeles. He said he has competed in Los Angeles for over 25 years and reminisced several moments, including winning his maiden world championship title.

When John Cena announced his farewell tour at 2024 Money in the Bank

John Cena confirmed during the 2024 Money in the Bank in July last year that 2025 will be his final year as a professional wrestler. “Tonight I officially announce my retirement from the WWE,” he had said. Cena had also said that he would like to sign off with a 17th world title. “I would love that opportunity. Those opportunities are earned. Given my past track record, I’ve got some work to do.

“So what I said tonight about fantastic opportunities, man, the Rumble, that’s a great ticket. Elimination Chamber now has some stakes to it. That is another great opportunity. Like I said, WrestleMania is not my last one. Money in the Bank is another great opportunity, " he had added.
