YouTube sensation Jake Paul celebrated the biggest moment of his professional boxing career so far on Friday by defeating the legendary Mike Tyson by unanimous verdict in Arlington, USA. All three judges voted in favour of Paul 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 after the 27-year-old comfortably outpunched 58-year-old ‘Iron Mike’ at the AT&T Stadium located in the state of Texas.
Tyson, widely considered one of the greatest boxers of all time who earned the moniker ’the Baddest Man on the Planet’, was making his return to the ring for a sanctioned fight after 19 years. The former undisputed heavyweight champion faced Paul in a sanctioned match that has special provisions keeping his age in mind, with the gloves having an extra layer of cushioning and the bout comprising eight rounds instead of 12, each round spanning two minutes.

Both boxers, however, were booed by the crowd after a heavily-anticipated bout that didn’t quite deliver as expected, with Tyson criticised by some for choosing to fight at an age of nearly 60 and appearing a shadow of his former self in the process.
After his defeat against Paul, Tyson’s record stands at 50 wins in 59 bouts, with seven wins and two ‘No Contests’. Paul, who had starred in the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark and has also dabbled in Mixed Martial Arts, improved his pro boxing record to 12 wins in 13 bouts, his only defeat coming at the hands of English boxer Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia last year.
Besides defeating one of the biggest names in boxing history at one of the most famous sporting venues in the world, Jake was also in the news for reasons that have little to do with the technical aspects of the sport.

Before making his way to the ring in a customised Chevrolet Dually truck alongside brother Logan, Jake gave his Instagram followers a glimpse at his outfit, which he described as the ““most expensive boxing outfit of all-time”. The 27-year-old’s outfit consisted of 380 carats of diamonds along with a custom piece painted by renowned street artist Alec Monopoly.
Speaking to Hailey Welch on the Talk Tuah podcast ahead of Friday’s showdown at the home of the Dallas Cowboys, Paul revealed that the outfit was worth a million dollars.
“This outfit that I have made for the fight is the most expensive fight outfit in the history of boxing. It’s $1 million. It has cost a pretty penny and it is very shiny, that’s the hints I will give,” Paul said on the podcast.
Paul had showed up for the pre-fight press conference sporting a diamond-encrusted earpiece, making a reference to the infamous incident of Tyson biting former boxer Evander Holyfield’s ear off in 1997 while explaining its purpose.
While Paul won $40 million for his victory on Friday, Tyson took home $20 million.
