The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) took the first step towards realising its dream of hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics by initiating the dialogue process with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Future Host Commission (FHC).

The latest update in the quest to host the biggest sporting event ever on Indian soil was provided by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday, as per a release from the Press Information Bureau.

The FHC is a dedicated body within the IOC that is responsible for the selection process of host cities for the Olympic Games. Interested National Olympic Committees (NOCs) are required to initiate a dialogue with the FHC.

The process then evelates to a Continuous Dialogue followed by a Targeted Dialogue, the latter being the final step in the process which involves select NOCs.

Once the dialogue is complete, the IOC hosts an election where members vote for the award of the hosting rights for the concerned Olympic games.

The IOA is bidding to host the 2036 Games keeping Ahmedabad as the host city in its mind.

The nation had previously hosted the first-ever Asian Games in 1951, as well as the 2010 Commonwealth Games — both in New Delhi — with the latter being the biggest multi-sports event to have taken place in India till date.
