India finished the Paris Olympics with six medals - one silver and a bronze. It could trickle to seven if Vinesh Phogat’s appeal at Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is successful. As things stand, India have fallen short in comparison to the Tokyo Olympics.

Paris Olympics: News, schedule, medals tally and more

India’s last participation at the Olympics was via Reetika Hooda who was eliminated from the women’s 76kg wrestling in a close finish.

A fortnight that began with promise of two medals from Manu Bhaker, ended on a disappointing note of no real progress.

A recap of India’s campaign at the Summer Olympics in numbers:

6* - Manu Bhaker , Manu Bhaker-Sarabjot Singh , Swapnil Kusale , India men's hockey team , Neeraj Chopra and Aman Sehrawat contributed to India’s six medals. Vinesh could add one more.

6 - There were six medals ‘missed’. Six more could have been added but for fourth place finishes . Arjun Babuta, Mirabai Chanu, Lakshya Sen, mixed shooting team of Anant Jeet Singh Naruka-Maheshwari Chauhan and archers Ankita Bhakat-Dhiraj Bommadevara were all right below the bronze medal step.

0.32 seconds - Except Neeraj, athletics didn’t have a great Olympics with individuals not meeting personal or season best at the biggest stage. Not the men’s 4x400m team though. They missed out on qualifying for the final by just 0.32 seconds.

2 - Mirabai Chanu could have joined the multiple medallists club of Neeraj Chopra, Manu Bhaker and the hockey team but for a missed lift. She wasn’t able to lift 114kg in her last attempt and missed the bronze by 2kg (or 1kg to level things)

12 - For the first time since 2012, or in 12 years, India won an Olympic medal in shooting

1 - Manu Bhaker became the first Indian since independence to win multiple medals at the same edition. Norman Pritchard had also achieved this feat at Paris 1900

10 - Harmanpreet Singh was crucial to India winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. Of the 15 goals that India scored, 10 of them came from the skipper’s stick - eight penalty corners and two penalty strokes.

52 - India’s milestone win from the Games was beating Australia 3-2 . it was the men’s hockey team’s first win over the Aussies at an Olympics in 52 years.

India’s back-to-back Olympic medals are also the first time they’ve done a repeat since 1972 - 52 years ago.

89.45m - Neeraj Chopra may not have successfully defended his gold medal in men’s javelin throw at the Paris Olympics but the athlete produced his second (89.45m) and third (89.34m) biggest throws of his left. It only took a monster throw from Arshad Nadeem (92.97m) to keep Neeraj down

21 years 24 days - Wrestler Aman Sehrawat became the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal in an individual event. The previous youngest was PV Sindhu at Rio 2016

16 years - Sehrawat’s medal kept wrestling’s contribution streak at Olympics going. For first straight Olympics, or since 2008, the last 16 years, wrestling has added a medal to the tally. It is India’s eighth wrestling medal.

16 - If wrestling kept its streak going and shooting broke its own, badminton's run was halted . After medals at London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, India didn’t win a medal from the badminton court. The furthest that anyone went was Olympics debutant Lakshya Sen.

82-1 - Yui Susaki of Japan had never lost an international bout. 82-0 read the scoreline as Vinesh prepared to face the Tokyo 2020 gold medallist. That streak looked to continue until the final few moments in a tactical masterclass with Vinesh producing a massive upset

100 grams - A day later, Vinesh Phogat was found to be 100 grams over the weight limit at the weigh-in and disqualified from competing for the gold medal

2.6 cms - In the men’s individual archery shoot-off, Dhiraj Bommadevara was denied by 2.6cms. He shot a 10, but his opponent’s 10 was closer to the centre.
