July 8, 2022, 01:07:13 (IST)
That’s it from our Live coverage folks! Do join us for India’s cross over game in three days’ time (10 July) as India fight again in a do-or-die game for a spot in the quarter-finals.
July 8, 2022, 01:00:19 (IST)
Full time: India pay the price for not converting their penalty corners on the night as goals from Gurjit Kaur, Lalremsiami and Vandana Katariaya prove not enough as New Zealand score four, including two penalty corners, to book the quarter-final spot. India still stay alive in the tournament as they reach the cross over round by virtue of finishing third in the group.
July 8, 2022, 00:50:33 (IST)
Q4: Goal! Gurji Kaur finally coverts a penalty corner to make it 4-3! India still have a chance to draw this match with a minute left on the clock.
July 8, 2022, 00:41:22 (IST)
Q4: Heartbreak for India as the referee sees no reason to change the on-field decision. The score changes to New Zealand’s favour 4-2 as Olivia Merry scores her second goal from the penalty corner. That has been the difference, hasn’t it? It will always come back to haunt you if you don’t convert the penalty corners. Saying that, India still have five minutes to turn things around. Unlikely but not impossible
July 8, 2022, 00:38:22 (IST)
Q4: Goal and it’s 4-2! New Zealand scores against the flow of the game by converting their third penalty corner. But wait! the goal is being video reviewed by the referee. India may still be alive in the game
July 8, 2022, 00:36:27 (IST)
Q4: Jyoti’s introduction has really spiced things up for India as she is partnering with Vandana well on the right flank to find that space in the water-tight defense of New Zealand.

Q4: So close! A chance goes begging for India as substitute Monika decision to receive an inch-perfect cross from the right flank from another substitute Jyoti allows New Zealand defender enough time to stop the forward from having a clear shot despite being right in front of the goal. Still 10 minutes left on the clock, a lot can still happen.
July 8, 2022, 00:24:33 (IST)
Q4: India feel bullish in the opening minutes of the final quarter as they win two penalty corners following back-to-back attacks. Sadly, Indian dragflick expert Deep Grace Ekka misfires again on both the ocassion. Not her day so far
July 8, 2022, 00:22:54 (IST)
An adventurous third quarter saw India bring themselves back in the game through Lalremsiami’s open field goal after Frances Davies gave the rivals a 3-1 lead. However, forward Lalremsiami’s late goal, after setting up the opener, meant India will go into the final quarter with the momentum in their favour.
July 8, 2022, 00:17:50 (IST)
Q3: Goal! It’s 3-2 as Lalremsiami pulls one back for India! Just over a minute to go in the third quarter and is India are alive again.
July 8, 2022, 00:16:00 (IST)
Q3: Gurjit Kaur comes close to scoring from a penalty corner but Roberts Brooke quick reflexes stop it from going in. More of that needed by India.
July 8, 2022, 00:13:26 (IST)
Q3: With less than five minutes to go in the third quarter, New Zealand are happy to sit back in numbers and catch India on the counter. The plan has worked to perfection as India are struggling to find their forwards inside a crowded defensive half while being exposed on the counter. India are living dangerously at the moment.

Q3: India are attacking with intent now as they approach New Zealand’s box in numbers but are lacking that decisive factor inside the box as none of the forwards have fired yet this World Cup except for Vandana.
July 8, 2022, 00:05:30 (IST)
Q3: Goal! New Zealand extend their lead to 3-1 from the penalty corner through Davies Frances. New Zealand really exerted themselves at the beginning of the third quarter as the goal came after three back-to-back penalty corners. It’s a mountain to climb for India from hereon.

Third quarter gets underway as India attack from left to right.
July 7, 2022, 23:55:34 (IST)
The second quarter ends on a disappointing note for India, who struggled to play their game in the second game during the second 15 minute of passage of play. They did win a penalty corner early but misfired as they did in the first quarter. From there on New Zealand dictated the tempo of the game with zonal defending, allowing no pace and space for India to blow on. The tactics eventually got under India’s skin, who gave away the ball too close to their goal for Tessa Jopp to capitalise on with over a minute left on the clock.
July 7, 2022, 23:49:31 (IST)
Q2: Goal! New Zealand take lead for the first time in the match as Tessa Jopp punishes India, who were caught napping in the defence. Coach Janneke Schopman certainly will have a thing or two to say about that horrendous error as it’s half time at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen
July 7, 2022, 23:42:25 (IST)
Q2: With less than five minutes to go in the quarter, New Zealand are sitting back in numbers to allow no space to Indian forwards in their defensive third. Can’t really blame them as a draw ensures they top Pool C with five points and grab that quarter-final spot.

Q2: India are now playing with 10 players for the next two minutes after referee carded an Indian defender
July 7, 2022, 23:34:34 (IST)
Q2: India win a penalty corner following their first attack of the second quarter. Deep Grace Ekka, however, couldn’t keep her shot on the target.
July 7, 2022, 23:30:58 (IST)
Q1 ends 1-1 as Olivia Merry brought New Zealand back into the game in the 12th minute after Vandana Katariya’s poaching instinct put India ahead in the fourth minute. India must be feeling a bit disappointed with themselves as the goal came right after Gurjit Kaur and Sharmila Devi came close to doubling India’s lead right before their rivals equalised. The second quarter will start soon.
July 7, 2022, 23:28:05 (IST)
Q1: Goal! It’s 1-1 With less than four minutes to go in the opening quarter. The goal comes from a penalty corner as dragflick expert Merry smashes the ball into the net.
July 7, 2022, 23:22:47 (IST)
Q1: Indian coach Janneke Schopman certainly be pleased with the goal as this was the team’s first goal from open play this World Cup
July 7, 2022, 23:18:06 (IST)
Q1: India take the lead! The goal comes within the first four minutes as Vandana Kataria slots it in. The in-form strike positioned herself right in front of the goal awaiting Lalremsiami’s no-look pass, leaving New Zealand defense stun! This was Vandana’s and India’s third goal of this World Cup

Q1: The match has begun as India attacks from right to left in the first quarter (Q1)
July 7, 2022, 23:07:21 (IST)
An unfavourable result may still not put India out of the tournament as they will have a chance to play in the cross-over round; a longer route to quarterfinal. For that India must hold on to their third spot in the Pool; to ensure that India must not lose by a margin of more than two goals.
July 7, 2022, 23:03:02 (IST)
To those unaware, India are currently third in Pool C with two points after two back-to-back draws against England and China respectively. Fortunately, a 2-0 win for England in the game earlier against China meant India can directly qualify for the quarter-final if they beat New Zealand in this match. That’s easier said than done as New Zealand are the most prominent team in the group with five goals in two matches (1 win and a draw) against India’s two goals so far.
