Novak Djokovic has become just the eighth man in history to have won all four of tennis’ Grand Slams, after the Serbian World No 1 clinched his first French Open title on Sunday. Djokovic overcame the challenge of Briton Andy Murray in the title clash, winning the tie 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. With it, Djokovic has now won 12 Grand Slam titles, just five short of Roger Federer’s record of 17. Moments after Djokovic hit the final shot to confirm his championship success, Twitter exploded in a flurry of congratulatory messages. Andy Murray’s coach Jamie Delgado was left shattered by Djokovic’s performance, but vowed to return stronger at next month’s Wimbledon championships.

With Murray and Djokovic clashing for the 34th time on the ATP tour, their respective mothers — Judy Murray and Djana Djokovic — have become fast friends off the court. While the sons were battling on Sunday, the mothers found time for a glass of champagne.
