Vinicius Junior will be available for Real Madrid for Thursday’s Super Cup semi-finals against Mallorca despite the Brazilian forward being handed a two-match ban by the Spanish FA (RFEF). Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr. was red-carded in his team's 2-1 win over Valencia in the La Liga on Friday. The final punishment was set at a two-game ban by the RFEF on Tuesday after an appeal by Real Madrid.
However, Vinicius has been cleared by the Spanish FA to take part in the Super Cup which means he will be available for selection should Carlo Ancelotti decide to play the forward against Mallorca in a match that will take place at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Real Madrid face Mallorca test in Super Cup semis
A victory against Mallorca will propel Real Madrid to the final which will be against Barcelona. The Catalans reached the final by beating Athletic Club 2-0 in the semi-finals.
The 2024 Spanish Super Cup final was also between Real Madrid and Barcelona which the former won 4-1 as Vinicius scored a hat-trick.
Real reached the semi-finals by beating Deportivo Minera 5-0 on Monday as the Italian coach Ancelotti rested most of the big stars. Vinicius, Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Ferland Mendy were benched while 17-year-old central defender Diego Aguado was given a debut. Endrick, Brahim Díaz, and Arda Guler also started for the Los Blancos.
Why Vinicius was sent off against Valencia?
Vinicius was sent off against Valencia for slapping opponent goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski at the Mestalla stadium when Madrid were trailing 1-0.
Despite Vinicius losing his cool in the match, coach Ancelotti showed support for the new FIFA The Best Men's Player, who has been involved in multiple racial abuse episodes.
“I think it is difficult (to be Vinicius), I’m not in his skin, but I think it’s difficult,” Ancelotti told reporters after the Valencia match. “To bear everything that has happened, the insults, everything, it’s not so simple.
“Obviously he’s sad about the red card, he said sorry and we have to look forwards.”
Real are currently the La Liga leaders with 43 points.
