Arsenal find themselves on top of the Premier League standings heading into the Christmas break, leading Manchester City by just two points. After finishing runners-up in each of the last three seasons, Mikel Arteta’s side will be hoping to go a step further and end the club’s 22-year wait for a fourth Premier League title – which will be their 14th English top-flight title overall.

Arsenal summer signing Viktor Gyokeres, who had arrived from Sporting CP on a five-year contract worth £64 million , sounds confident about the Gunners’ ability to cross the final hurdle this season after falling short multiple times in recent years.

“We are all optimistic. I believe the team has a strong spirit and a positive atmosphere at the training ground. It is important to maintain that energy, keep doing the things that are working well, and continue improving together every day. Right now, we are focusing on winning the upcoming games rather than thinking too much about the end goals,” the 27-year-old told JioStar, the official Premier League broadcaster in India.

Gyokeres heaps praise on Arsenal boss Arteta

The Swedish striker, who has seven goals to his name in 20 appearances for Arsenal across competitions, also hailed Arteta as an “excellent manager” with the ability to understand different personalities within the team and tailor his approach accordingly.

“I think he is an excellent manager, especially in terms of our style of play. Equally important is his ability to understand the different personalities within the team and tailor his approach to each player. He excels at that. His determination and strong will to succeed inspire everyone. His energy is clearly felt not only during regular training sessions but also before matches. That is something everyone can truly sense,” he added.

Besides the Premier League, Arsenal are also leading the UEFA Champions League table this season, having won each of the six matches that they have played so far and leading Bayern Munich and defending champions Paris Saint-Germain by three and five points respectively.

And in other competitions. the Gunners face Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals of the League Cup on Tuesday.
