Ruben Amorim is not worried about job security at Manchester United, as he declared on Sunday that he was not hired only to be a coach but to be the manager of the Red Devils. Amorim’s passionate rant came after a 1-1 draw against 16th-ranked Leeds United at Elland Road, sparking fresh questions over the Portuguese coach’s future at Man United.
Man United could have moved to the fifth spot in the English Premier League standings with a win over Leeds, but they needed a Matheus Cunha equaliser in the end to secure a draw away from home.

The result at a lowly-ranked club was far from what the fans were expecting, and it put Amorim once again into focus. A few days ago, the 40-year-old manager stated that United have no plans to make any transfers in the January window.
When asked if he still enjoys the confidence of the Man United board, Amorim went on a passionate rant, stating that he has no plans to quit the job.
“I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United, and that is clear,” Amorim said.
“I know that my name is not (Thomas) Tuchel, it’s not (Antonio) Conte, it’s not (Jose) Mourinho, but I’m the manager of Manchester United. It’s going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decides to change.”
“So that was my point. I want to finish with that. I’m not going to quit,” he added. “I will do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me.”
Facing more questions on his ability to eke out desired results at Man United, Amorim repeated that he is the manager of the team and not just the coach.
“I just want to say that I’m going to be the manager of this team, not just the coach. And I was really clear on that,” he said.
“And that is going to finish in 18 months and then everyone is going to move on. That was the deal. That is my job, not to be a coach.”
Amorim also took a dig at his own players as he said that if they are unable to take external criticism from experts like former defender Gary Neville, then they need to change the club.
“If people cannot handle Gary Neville and the criticism of everything, we need to change the club,” he said.
“I just want to say that I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach. And every department – the scouting department, the sports director – needs to do their job.
“I will do mine for 18 months and then we move on.”
