Manchester United would most likely not be making any major transfers in the January window, manager Ruben Amorim has revealed. Man United were tipped to be the favourite to sign Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo last month, but things have changed drastically.

Antoine Semenyo has a release clause of £65 million, and while United pursued him aggressively, the Ghana international wants to join Man City. As a result, Man United are not interested in breaking the bank for the 25-year-old.

Amorim discusses Man United’s January transfer plans

Ahead of Man United’s Sunday English Premier League game vs Leeds, manager Amorim revealed that there are “no conversations” around making January transfers and changes to the squad.

“The transfer window is not going to change,” Amorim said before United’s match vs Leeds United. “We have no conversations in this moment to have any change in the squad. There is a process, there is an idea. That is going to continue.

“We are near the places of the Champions League, but we are near also eight teams behind us, so let’s focus on the next game, just that.”

Nonetheless, making midfield signings is going to be Man United’s priority, either in January or the summer transfer window. Casemiro is nearing the end of his contract at the club and Bruno Fernandes’ future is uncertain.

Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba are some of the players who have been linked with Man United recently, but the club may not move for any of them in January.

Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo could be forced to stay back at United. He wants to make a January loan move to Napoli, but Fernandes’ injury has created a stumbling block.

Another United player who has been linked with Serie A is Joshua Zirkzee, who is attracting interest from AS Roma, but with Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo missing due to the Africa Cup of Nations, he may also have to stay back at Old Trafford.
