Pele, one of the greatest and most loved footballers of all time, passed away at the age of 82 on Thursday. The news was confirmed by his family. “Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace,” daughter Kely Nascimento wrote on Instagram. Pele won the FIFA World Cup thrice with Brazil — 1958, 1962, and 1970 — and was named the athlete of the century by the International Olympic Committee in 1999. Pele scored more than 1,000 goals in his career which ended in 1977. The legendary footballer was fighting kidney problems and colon cancer. Pele’s death has led to an emotional outpouring by the international football community.
