Barcelona reportedly want to sign Marcus Rashford but the English striker may have to suffer another pay cut amid the financial struggles of the reigning Spanish champions.
Rashford joined Hansi Flick’s side on loan from Manchester United ahead of this season and had to settle for a pay cut. With the English international lighting up the stage with six goals and seven assists in 14 appearances for the Blaugarana, the club is reportedly eager to turn the loan deal into a permanent signing.
The loan deal had an option to buy at around 30 million euros. As per talkSPORT, Barcelona will be paying around €10million (Rs 100 crore approx) gross, including bonuses to Rashford which will be a huge reduction from his £16.9m-per-year wages at United.
However, the Barcelona move seems to be working well for both the club and the player and that might play a big role in the decisions that are taken by both the parties involved.
‘Relationship very important’
“I think the mutual happiness of the relationship so far is very important,” European football expert Andy Brassell recently said on the Trans Euro Express podcast.
“As we’ve underlined, Barcelona don’t have tons of money, but I think when you bear in mind that they could amortise that over the length of a contract, that they are planning to give Rashford another pay cut, if he will accept it," Brassell said.
“Obviously, he’s already taken a pay cut to go there, but he is speaking their language, and I don’t mean Catalan. And I think the plan is that they will give him a longer contract with the same sort of money that he’s getting at the moment," he added.
Rashford has found a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, which becomes increasingly crucial as we move towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“The fact that there is interest in Rashford, clearly, especially with a view to England and the World Cup next summer, in how he’s doing over here.
After falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim, Rashford had spent the second half of last season with Aston Villa on loan. After impressing at the Villa Park, the English forward moved to Spain, where he is enjoying a brilliant start.
