Manchester United’s struggles under Ruben Amorim have reached a breaking point, with reports suggesting that several players are considering leaving due to dissatisfaction with the manager’s tactics and style of play. Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has heavily criticised Man United’s recent performances, even claiming that the team captain Bruno Fernandes “looks like he hates football.”

Ruben Amorim’s tactics under scrutiny

United’s latest defeat, a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, was their eighth under Amorim's coaching, leaving the Red Devils languishing in 15th place, just three spots above the relegation zone. The lackluster display prompted O’Hara to label the team “one of the worst” he has ever seen.

O’Hara did not hold back in his criticism of United’s key players, particularly Fernandes, Casemiro, and new summer signing Joshua Zirkzee. He described Zirkzee as an “imposter,” questioned Casemiro’s ability to keep up with the pace of the game, and pointed out Fernandes’ visible frustration on the pitch.

“You need to build a team around Bruno Fernandes because he’s your best player,” O’Hara said on talkSPORT. “He’s having to run out and mark wingers. He looks like he hates football. No wonder so many players want to leave when you’ve got a manager coming in who is adamant about playing his way and style.”

The criticism doesn’t stop with O’Hara. Former Premier League striker Glenn Murray also believes United have deteriorated under Amorim, stating, “It’s hard to believe, but I think they probably do [look worse than they did under Ten Hag]. There’s definitely a lack of belief.”

One of the major issues raised is Amorim’s tactical approach. Some players feel that his strict adherence to the 3-4-3 formation is hurting the team and are urging him to be more flexible. Others believe that some teammates are not fully committed or are simply underperforming, making the formation ineffective.

Meanwhile, Amorim, who has secured only four wins in 14 Premier League matches since taking over in November last year, stated that he is not concerned about his job following the defeat to Spurs. The Portuguese coach added that he is more focused on Manchester United’s position in the Premier League table.

“The place in the table is my worry, I am not worried about me. I hate to lose. That feeling is the worst. The rest I am not thinking about. I understand my situation, my job, I am confident in my work and I just want to win games,” he said.
