Manchester City vs Chelsea Premier League LIVE: Manchester City will be aiming to reduce the gap with Premier League leaders Arsenal when they host Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. City currently are seven points behind Arsenal with a game in hand following the Gunners’ 3-2 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, and can reduce it to four should they beat the Blues at home on Matchday 20.
Chelsea in action for the first time since parting ways with Maresca
Chelsea, meanwhile, prepare for life after Enzo Maresca, who had been appointed their coach on a five-year contract in June 2024 only to part ways with Stamford Bridge on 1 January following a turbulent end to 2025.
Maresca had masterminded Chelsea’s triumph in the 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in the United States last summer, in which they defeated European champions Paris St. Germain in the final. The Italian manager, however, would be shown the door just six months later with the club currently at the fifth spot on the Premier League table, having collected 30 points at the halfway stage.
The six-time English top-flight champions enter the upcoming clash against City without a full-time manager, with Calum McFarlane currently managing the side on an interim basis. And while they face an uphill task against Pep Guardiola’s side, a victory for Chelsea could lift them to the fourth spot on the Premier League table, depending on Liverpool’s away clash against Fulham.
City currently lead Chelsea 29-27 on the head-to-head record across competitions with eight meetings ending in a draw. Guardiola’s men had thrashed Chelsea 3-1 in January last year with Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden scoring for City after Noni Madueke helped Chelsea seize the lead in just three minutes.
