Indian youth football club Minerva Academy FC achieved a massive feat on Friday (3 April) as they completed a memorable victory over the Under-15 side of English Premier League giants, Liverpool, in the Mediterranean International Cup (MIC) 2026 in Spain. One of the most prestigious youth football competitions, the MIC Cup, is organised every year around Easter in the Costa Brava of Spain.
Playing Liverpool in the quarter-finals, Punjab’s Minerva Academy FC produced a stunning effort as they won by a massive 6-0 margin to reach the semi-finals. Wahengbam Raj Singh scored a hat-trick for the Indian football side, while Mohammad Azam Khan registered a brace.

Lisham Amarson Singh scored the remaining goal as an Indian football academy defeated the youth team of one of the world’s best football teams.
Such was the disappointment for Liverpool fans that the news of Minerva’s victory was also shared by Anything Liverpool, a popular club news handle on X (formerly Twitter).
Sharing the clip of one of the goals scored by a Minerva Academy FC player, Anything Liverpool wrote on X that “The Liverpool U15s lost 6-0 to Indian side Minerva Academy at the 2026 MIC Cup. Huge win for Indian football but what is going on with our academy.”

While some Liverpool fans were unhappy with the loss, Indian fans rejoiced in the comments section.
“One of the proud moments for Indian football. Hopes for the future,” an Indian fan wrote.
A Liverpool fan added: “A good loss. Sometimes players need this kind of awakening in their system.”
Minerva Academy has been making Indian football proud for a while. Their U-14/U-15 squad won the Gothia Cup, Dana Cup and Norway Cup in 2025. The players were felicitated by Lionel Messi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in December last year.
Messi also played in the MIC Cup as a youth. Players like Neymar and Gerard Pique have also featured in the old iconic youth football tournament.
