Barcelona will seriously target Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane as the replacement for Robert Lewandowski whose contract at Camp Nou expires in June next year.
According to a report in The Guardian, Kane is Barcelona’s top choice to replace Lewandowski and they would try to trigger the clause in his contract with Bayern Munich that would allow the England striker to leave for £57m in the summer.
Kane’s contract at Bayern ends in 2027 and the English international has given no signs of him willing to leave the club early. He left Tottenham to join the German giants in August 2023 and has enjoyed great success in Munich both personally and on a team level.
He has struck 108 goals in just 113 appearances so far for Bayern. In September, Kane became the fastest player to reach 100 goals this century while playing in one of the top five leagues of Europe.
He also won a trophy this year as his striking prowess played a key role in Bayern’s Bundesliga-winning campaign.
Lewandowski’s future undecided
Despite scoring a hat-trick on Sunday against Celta Vigo, Lewandowski might not be able to hold on to a contract with Barcelona. The 37-year-old has been in fine form this season with seven goals in nine appearances. He is joint-second in the golden boot race in the Laliga with only Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe ahead.
Reports say that Barcelona might be looking beyond the Polish striker at the end of the season. He has also not been a regular starter this season for Hansi Flick’s side. Reports from the Spanish media have also stated that unlikely many veterans, Lewandowski is unwilling to move to Saudi even if Barcelona do not extend his contract.
On his future, Lewandowski had recently said that he will assess things “based on how I feel at the end of the season."
