It was double delight for Paris St-Germain and France forward Ousmane Dembele as the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner was named the men’s player of the year at the FIFA Best awards on Tuesday in Qatar. While Dembele won the FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year award for helping PSG win four trophies in the 2024-25 season, Barcelona and Spain national team midfielder Aitana Bonmatí won The Best FIFA Women’s Player award for a record third consecutive time.
The Best FIFA Football Awards is a year-end ceremony that rewards the best performers in men’s and women’s football, acknowledges the best coaches, goalkeepers, and the most spectacular goals. The voting for The Best FIFA Football Awards is divided into four different sections, with each section contributing 25 per cent of the final result.
The four groups who vote for the The Best FIFA Football Awards are national team captains, national team coaches, media and fans.
Dembele wins FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year award
This is the first time Dembele has been named the men’s player of the year at the FIFA Best awards. He won the award after making 51 goal contributions in 53 games for PSG in the last season, in which they won a treble including the UEFA Champions League. He left behind Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe to clinch the FIFA award.
Meanwhile, former PSG goalkeeper, who now plays for Manchester City, Gianluigi Donnarumma, was named the FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year for 2025.
The Best FIFA XI 2025
Also, six players from PSG’s 2024-25 season were part of FIFA The Best Men’s XI. Cole Palmer and Virgil van Dijk were the only two English Premier League players in the XI, while Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Jude Bellingham were picked from La Liga.
