Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that he will not be leaving Al-Nassr in the near future and is committed to winning trophies with the Saudi Arabian club. Ronaldo’s contract with Al-Nassr is set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season and there are speculations that the veteran might be on the lookout for a new club in the ongoing January transfer window.
The only trophy that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has won with Al-Nassr is the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023 . Ronaldo joined the Saudi Pro League club in December 2022 from Manchester United, where his second stint with the club ended in a fallout with the club’s owners and then manager Erik ten Hag.
‘I’m happy and my family is happy’: Ronaldo
“I’m happy and my family is happy. We started a new life in this beautiful country. Life is good, football is good. In terms of individual and collective, we are still there. We are still improving,” Ronaldo said on the official media channels of Saudi Pro League.
“It’s hard to compete with teams like Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad, but we are still there, still pushing and fighting. Football is like that; you have good moments and bad moments. But, for me, the most important thing is to be professional, to push hard, respect the club, respect your contract and believe that things will change – for Al Nassr to try to win more titles,” added the 39-year-old.
Ronaldo, who has scored 80 goals in 89 matches for Al-Nassr, has opened up on his desire to win the AFC Champions League . “The [AFC] Champions League is something I want to win for the club. But the most important is to keep pushing and be professional," stated Ronaldo.
Why Ronaldo left Manchester United in 2022
In an interview with broadcaster Piers Morgan, Ronaldo had claimed unhappiness with his situation at Manchester United and how he felt betrayed at the club. Ronaldo, who returned to Old Trafford in August 2021, played 54 games for United and scored 27 goals in his second stint. He made the stunning revelation of the United management in an interview with Morgan in late 2022.
“Yes, not only the coach, but another two or three guys around the club. I felt betrayed,” said Ronaldo when asked if the United management was trying to force him out. Ronaldo eventually left the club by “mutual agreement” in November 2022 and joined Al-Nassr in December 2022.
