After enduring a challenging few seasons, Chelsea have reclaimed their status as a dominant force in English football. First, they ensured themselves a Champions League ticket by finishing in the top 4 of the Premier League. Then they claimed the UEFA Conference League, defeating Real Betis in a one-sided final. They then went on to win the inaugural Club World Cup, beating none other than the Champions League winners PSG in the grand finale.
Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro rattled PSG with clinical finishes. Needless to state what the next target would be for the Blues. For the unversed, Chelsea will have their sight on capturing the league glory again.
Realising the target, the club has worked on further improving the side in the summer transfer window. As the Blues are blessed with the wherewithal to make big money signings, they have made nine this summer, splashing £243.4 million to attain the services of the targets.
One of the men who has made an immediate difference since shifting base to Stamford Bridge is Joao Pedro. The 23-year-old attacker, who came at a reported fee of 55 million, found the back of the net three times in the CWC.
Joao Pedro on making move to Chelsea
Recollecting the Club World Cup stint with Chelsea, Pedro stated that landing in Miami to play the tournament brought back the memories of Brazil, and eventually, it became easier for him to immediately accustom himself to the change.
“It was a great moment to meet everyone. Miami felt similar to Brazil, which helped me settle in. I’d been talking to Andrey [Andrey Santos] on Instagram, asking about the team, the club, and he said really good things. So, I’m happy to have joined.” Pedro told JioHotstar.
Impressed with the history of the club, Pedro deems Chelsea a big club; hence, he did not have to think much before signing with the club.
“It’s because of the club’s history. Growing up in Brazil, I saw so many people watch football and support Chelsea. I was one of those youngsters. Chelsea had brilliant players in the past and still has great players now. It’s a big club, and that’s why I chose to join.”
Pedro revealed that he shares a close relationship with Chelsea legend David Luiz and had a chat with him regarding the club and his career.
“I’m a little close to David Luiz. I spoke with him about Chelsea, my career, and how I can develop better, and he has been very helpful to me.”
Being a technical player and someone who has played in the midfield as well, Joao Pedro will offer a lot to Enzo Meresca’s side, something which he has already proved with his performances in the Club World Cup.
“I’m a very technical player. I love to score goals. When I was younger, I also played in midfield, so I can provide good passes to my teammates. Overall, I’d say I’m a quality, technical player.”
Having made a promising start, Joao Pedro intends to win many titles with Chelsea.
“When you join Chelsea, there’s only one thing to think about: winning titles. In every tournament you play, you represent Chelsea, and the goal is to win. That is my ambition—to win titles with Chelsea.”
