Brazilian winger Antony has opened up about his hard time at Manchester United before joining La Liga side Real Betis permanently . At his official unveiling at Betis on Tuesday, September 1, Antony got emotional while talking about his time at Old Trafford under manager Ruben Amorim.
The 25-year-old had joined United from Dutch club Ajax in 2022 but struggled to make an impact, scoring just 12 goals and five assists in 96 games. In the second half of the 2024-25 Premier League season, Antony was sent on loan to Betis, where he impressed with nine goals and five assists in 26 games.
Now, the Spanish club has signed Antony permanently and completed a deal on the deadline day of the summer transfer window. Before the move, Antony had been training away from United’s first team all summer as he, along with a few other players, was sidelined by Amorim.

Antony was even seen shedding tears during the official event organised by Betis to welcome him as he described his ordeal at United.
“What happened in Manchester, only I know how difficult it was. I’m sorry. Training separately, but that’s part of life. I knew this moment would come. It’s in the past. What a difference! Seville is more beautiful than Manchester. I’m finally here. I spent more than 40 days in a hotel; it was very hard, but everyone knew I wanted to return to Betis,” Antony said.
“Now with more time, we have so many things to do and achieve. I had trouble sleeping after seeing so much affection from the Betis fans; there were people waiting at my house at two in the morning. It’s been very hard, but we’re here now. I’m looking forward to wearing the Betis shirt again. I can only thank everyone who made it possible,” he added.
“Being cared about is very important to me, it is something money can’t buy. Here, I have had good feelings and felt lots of affection. It was always my first choice, and that’s why I waited until the last day to return to Betis. Now I’m here and happy in a city and at a club that I love,” he said.
