Newcastle United are not happy with Liverpool after efforts to ‘unsettle’ Alexander Isak ahead of a potential bid for the 25-year-old striker, the British media has reported. As per The Telegraph, Newcastle are not interested in selling Isak, but Liverpool could soon be launching a £120million bid for the Swedish footballer.
Ahead of their massive deal, Liverpool are reportedly making efforts to ‘unsettle’ the striker at Newcastle by enquiring about signing him, despite having no chance and possibly to influence his decision. Isak, however, has not said anything about the possibility of leaving Newcastle so far. He has also not put in any format transfer request at Newcastle, as per reports
Why Liverpool want to sign Isak?
It’s quite understandable that Liverpool are looking to bring in Isak as they aim to defend their English Premier League title in the 2025-26 season. Isak scored 23 goals and made 6 assists in 34 matches last season and also scored the winner for Newcastle against Liverpool in the 2025 Carabao Cup final.
Meanwhile, some media houses in Britain have also reported that Newcastle have sent a delegation to Germany to negotiate a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt for striker Hugo Ekitike. Newcastle may end up playing £78million Ekitike and he is seen as a replacement for Isak by a few experts and fans.
Meanwhile, Isak’s quotes from an interview from last year about Liverpool’s home stadium, Anfield, are going viral as fans see it as an indication of him joining the Merseyside football club.
“There are not many places like St James’ Park. The atmosphere is very special and I think you can judge a stadium, not just on the atmosphere but how difficult it is to come as an away team. It’s a special place. I think people have a hard time coming to the stadium,” Isak said in an interview last year.
“I’d say Anfield is probably up there as well. The atmosphere is really good - it’s probably the toughest away game.”
Liverpool have already spent a massive £100m on attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz. The reported fee can go up to £116m with add-ons.
