Liverpool have reportedly landed the big fish Alexander Isak from Newcastle, who had become their biggest target in the transfer window, which will close on Monday. Despite signing striker Hugo Ekitike for £79 million from Eintracht Frankfurt, Isak was Liverpool's No 1 target throughout this transfer window.

Liverpool had a £110 million offer for the 25-year-old Isak rejected by Newcastle earlier, but the Telegraph and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano have confirmed that the Magpies have now accepted a British record £130 million offer for the Swedish striker.
Isak to join Liverpool on British record fee
Isak’s transfer to Liverpool was made possible after Newcastle secured German striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart and they are also in the race to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford.
Newcastle earlier tried to convince Isak to stay back at the club as co-owner Jamie Reuben and a PIF delegation also met the striker recently at his residence to change his mind, but the Swedish footballer was hellbent on joining Liverpool despite having a contract till 2028 with The Magpies.
With the transfer deadline ending on Monday (1 September), Isak is expected to complete all the formalities, the medical tests and agree on personal terms as soon as possible.
Isak proved to be a massive success for Newcastle last season as he scored 23 goals in the Premier League, helping the club finish fifth and return to the Champions League. He also scored in the League Cup final win for Newcastle against Liverpool as the club clinched its first domestic trophy in 70 years.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League 2025-26 standings with nine points from three matches. They defeated Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield in a tense game on Sunday to take the sole lead ahead of Chelsea who are on seven points.
Liverpool’s next match is against Burnley on 14 September, after the international break, which can also be Isak’s debut.
