FIDE chess rankings: Arjun Erigaisi, D Gukesh remain fourth and fifth in 'Open' section; Koneru Humpy top among Indian women

India’s Arjun Erigaisi and D Gukesh remained in fourth and fifth places respectively in the latest FIDE rankings published on Wednesday. Erigaisi’s rating remains at 2801. The Warangal-born player had recently become only the second Indian after the legendary Viswanathan Anand to breach the 2800 ELO rating mark . Gukesh, on the other hand, has an ELO rating of 2783.

The teenager had in December 2024 defeated China's Ding Liren to clinch the World Chess Championship title . Magnus Carlsen, who recently shared the World Blitz Championship title with Ian Nepomniachtchi, continues to lead the FIDE rankings with an ELO rating of 2831. American Grandmasters Fabiano Caruana (2803) and Hikaru Nakamura (2802) are behind Carlsen.

Viswanathan Anand is currently in 10th place with an ELO rating of 2750. Apart from Arjun and Gukesh, six other Indian players feature in the top 50. They are R Praggnanandhaa (13th place), Aravindh Chithambaram (23rd), Vidit Gujrathi (24th), P Harikrishna (36th), Nihal Sarin (41st) and Raunak Sadhwani (48th).

Newly-crowned World Rapid champion Koneru Humpy leads the Indian contingent in FIDE rankings among women. Humpy is in sixth place with a rating of 2523. Divya Deshmukh has a rating of 2490 and is in 14th place, with D Harika in 16th place with a rating of 2489.

R Vaishali, who won bronze at the World Blitz Championship, is in 19th place with a rating of 2476. D Gukesh and R Praggnanandhaa occupy the top two spots in the junior men’s rankings.
