World Chess Championship 2024 Game 7 Live: The battle for the world chess title returns after the second rest day as D Gukesh and Ding Liren resume their rivalry in Singapore on Tuesday (3 December). Both Gukesh and Ding are tied on three points each after the first six matches. The first three matches saw two conclusive results, but the last three matches have been all draws , with both players squandering advantageous positions, which has created some controversy in the chess world.
Some chess legends are not impressed with how Indian Grandmaster Gukesh, 18, has played against 32-year-old Liren, the reigning world champion. Former world champion Vladimir Kramnik has said that the ongoing World Chess Championship is not at the level expected from the biggest match in the sport.
“No recap today, pardon, I was supposed to comment on the WC but, sorry for harsh but true words, this level of play of opponents has nothing in common with World Chess Championship,” he said on X after the sixth match.
Five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen has been particularly critical of Gukesh . “Gukesh has generally not impressed me so far. Ding has probably done a little bit better than we had thought. Well, we didn’t expect much (before the start of the world chess championship). But Gukesh has probably been a little bit worse,” Carlsen said on the Take Take Take app after the fifth game.
Nonetheless, there are eight more matches to go, and the first chess player to reach 7.5 points will win the World Chess Champions 2024.
