Both D Gukesh and Ding Liren, who have two games each so far in the World Chess Championship 2024, have become richer by $400,000 each and could earn more. Two games are still left in the World Chess Championship 2024.

The World Chess Championship 2024 is finely balanced at 6-6 after 12 games between D Gukesh and Ding Liren. Two more games remain in the $2.5 million championship, which is taking place in Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.

The last game (Game 12) was won by current world champion Ding of China who defeated 18-year-old Gukesh in just 39 moves to make a sensational comeback in the Championship. India’s Gukesh had defeated 32-year-old Ding in Game 11 to take a 6-5 lead .

The Game 13 will be played on 11 December (Wednesday) .

Gukesh is aiming to become the youngest-ever chess world champion, while Ding, who is the first Chinese to win the title, is fighting hard to defend his crown.

“6-6 is overall the fair result, but since I was leading after yesterday, it is a bit disappointing to lose this game," Gukesh said after losing Game 12.

The 2024 World Championship of chess has so far witnessed eight draws with both players winning two matches each. Guksh won Games 3 and 11, while Ding emerged victorious in Game 1 and Game 12.

Tiebreakers in fast-time control will be played if the Championship ends in a tie after 14 games.

How much prize money have Gukesh and Ding Liren earned till Game 12?

Each victory in the World Chess Championship 204 results in a $200,000 (Rs 1.68 crore approx.) prize money reward for a player. So far both players have won two games each. Gukesh won Game 3 and Game 11, while Ding clinched victories in Game 1 and Game 12. As a result, both players have already won $400,000 (Rs 3.36 crore approx.) each.

The World Chess Championship 2024 has a total prize pool of $2.5 million (Rs 21.17 crore approx.) and as per FIDE’s rule, each will result in a $200,000 reward and the remaining money split equally.

The FIDE rule on prize money also states that if the World Chess Championship 2024 ends in a tie, tiebreakers will be used to decide a winner. In such a case, the champion will receive $1.3 million (Rs 10.83 crore approx.), while the runner-up will take home $1.2 million (Rs 10 crore approx.).
