D Gukesh meets superstar Rajinikanth after becoming youngest chess world champion; see pictures

Gukesh, who defeated Ding Liren in the FIDE World Chess Championship in Singapore, received a shawl along with a copy of Autobiography of a Yogi from the legendary actor.

Dommaraju Gukesh has been on top of the world ever since his emotional triumph in the FIDE World Chess Championship in Singapore earlier this month. After the celebrations in the city state, the 18-year-old Indian Grandmaster would receive a hero’s welcome in his hometown of Chennai, where he would also receive a cash prize of Rs 5 crore from the Tamil Nadu government. Chief Minister MK Stalin presented him the award in the presence of Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin as well as his parents and chess legend Viswanathan Anand.

Days after his triumphant return home, Gukesh caught up with the individual his father is named after. The teen prodigy took to his social media accounts to share images of his recent meeting with legendary actor Rajinikanth, who presented the newly-crowned world champion with a shawl along with a copy of Paramahansa Yogananda’s book Autobiography of a Yogi.

“Thanks Superstar @rajinikanth sir for your warm wishes and inviting ,spending time and sharing your wisdom with us,” Gukesh wrote in a post on X and Instagram that included his picture with the superstar widely regarded as one of the greatest Indian actors.

It wasn’t just Rajinikanth Gukesh caught up with since his return to Chennai – he also shared pictures of his meeting with actor Sivakarthikeyan as well as with Tamil Nadu Governor Thiru R. N. Ravi and Lady Governor Tmt Laxmi Ravi.

Gukesh is currently on a break, having skipped the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships that got underway on Thursday in New York City, and will next be seen in action at the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands.
