Chess Olympiad 2024: Preview, format, venue, Indian team — All you need to know

India will aim for gold medals in both the open and women’s sections in the 45th Chess Olympiad which gets underway on Wednesday (11 September) in Budapest, Hungary. Viswanathan Anand will not be a part of the Indian open team which will led by D Gukesh, the FIDE Candidates tournament winner. Koneru Humpy is also missing from the women’s team.

Chess Olympiad 2024 Teams

Overall 196 teams will compete in the open section and 184 in the women’s section.

Chess Olympiad 2024 Major Teams

The USA are the top-seeded side in the open section followed by India, China, and Uzbekistan.

The top seeds in the women’s section are India, Georgia, Poland, China, and Ukraine.

Chess Olympiad 2024 Format

The Chess Olympiad 2024 will be played in the Swiss System and have 11 rounds in both the open and women’s sections. Each team and player will take part in 11 matches. Every win will fetch two match points and a draw will get one point. The team with the highest number of match points at the end of 11 rounds will be declared as winner.

Chess Olympiad 2024 Venue

The 45th Chess Olympiad will be held at the BOK Csarnok events venue in Budapest, Hungary, from 11 to 22 September.
