11:12 PM (IST)

That’ll be it from us here at Firstpost. Remember, the 3rd match of the series is still left. Will it be a consolation win for India or will the Tigers go for the “Bangla-wash”.  Its on Wednesday, June 24. We’ll be here to cover it. Join us then.

Goodnight, everyone.

11:09 PM (IST)

Firstpost’s very own Jigar Mehta hits the nail on its head. It has been thoroughly enjoyable to see this young Bangladesh side do well and everyone criticising India’s performance would do well to recognise the brilliance of Mortaza’s side.

11:06 PM (IST)

Dhoni: “We as batsmen got starts, but we didn’t make it big. Where we lacked was the fact that we lost wickets. Most of them played two or three deliveries.  We will come and enjoy, maybe play a bit more freely [in 3rd ODI]. Won’t think too much about the result. That will be the last match of the season, it has been a really long, hectic season over the last 12 months and we are looking forward to ending on a high."

11:02 PM (IST)

Dhoni: “It’s pretty simple to see what went wrong. It was our batting.”

11:00 PM (IST)

In the least-surprsing-MOTM-award ever, Mustafizur declared Player of the match. Might as well give him the player of the series now.

10:58 PM (IST)

This will be just the start of social media jokes mocking the Indian team, you can bet.

10:57 PM (IST)

Presentation ceremony underway in Dhaka.

10:52 PM (IST)

Rich praise from a star athlete.

10:50 PM (IST)

Echoing what many others are saying about the Bangladesh Tigers right now.

10:48 PM (IST)

Sabbir guides Axar’s ball past short third man to seal a thumping win. A six-wicket win with 54 balls remaining. It’s fair to say India were not allowed to dominate at any stage of the innings. 10 home wins in a row for Bangladesh.

Rahim: “This is one of the greatest moments in our history, no doubt.”

10:44 PM (IST)

THAT’S IT! BANGLADESH HAVE DONE IT! A series win against the much-vaunted, highly-decorated Indian team. A Champions Trophy place sealed as well.

Mustafizur walks out on to the pitch accompanied by huge cheers.

10:42 PM (IST)

Mortaza is going bonkers in the dressing room. Just a run away now.

10:41 PM (IST)

FIFTY FOR SHAKIB! What a masterful innings. Pulls Jadeja past midwicket.

10:40 PM (IST)

After 37 overs, Bangladesh 182/4 (Shakib 46, Sabbir 21)

An eventful over from Dhawal. An ‘acrobatic houdini-esque’ effort (as put by Alan Wilkins) to not fall on the stumps sandwiched by two boundaries on the off side and leg-side. Sabbir finishing this is emphatic fashion for Bangladesh. Make no mistake, this is an absolute pasting for India.

6 required from 60.

10:36 PM (IST)

After 36 overs, Bangladesh 182/4 (Shakib 44, Sabbir 12)

Powerplay, no powerplay, Shakib can’t be forced to play a shot in anger. That mistimed sweep off Ashwin seems to have done the trick for the KKR all-rounder. Hasn’t played a loose shot since. One run from Jadeja’s over.

10:34 PM (IST)

Batting Powerplay signalled by the umpire. If you recollect,  this is about the time when India’s innings completely unravelled. Bangladesh showing no intent of letting up.

10:32 PM (IST)

After 35 overs, Bangladesh 181/4 (Shakib 43, Sabbir 12)

Sabbir says he wants to get this done nice and early. Second ball of the over, clears his feet, slaps a half-volley past Dhawal Kulkarni with complete disdain. Follows that with a similarly aggressive pull but straight to the fielder. Words exchanged by the batsman and fielders. Frustration clearly showing on the Indians’ faces. Crowd loving it. Shakib meanwhile continues milking.

10:26 PM (IST)

After 34 overs, Bangladesh 174/4 (Shakib 41, Sabbir 7)

Defending the straight balls, working the short balls and ones on the leg stump to easy singles. Easy does it for the batsmen. 26 required from 78 balls. Shakib the elder statesman taking the Tigers close to a series win.

10:24 PM (IST)

After 33 overs, Bangladesh 171/4 (Shakib 39, Sabbir 6)

If optimistic Indian fans are still looking for a miraculous collapse, it ain’t happening. A good ove from Dhawal, on the money, but the hosts content to take just a couple of singles. The last ball looped off Sabbir’s thigh pads to square legs, but no real appeal from India.

10:20 PM (IST)

After 32 overs, Bangladesh 168/4 (Shakib 38, Sabbir 5)

Shakib and Sabbir continue to milk the singles around the park off Jadeja. Five singles and easily done.

Brief delay in that over as Shakib complains of something in his eye, but Tucker asks him to get on with it. It’s difficult to bat one-eyed, Mr. Tucker. It’s not like this game is going on much longer.

10:15 PM (IST)

After 31 overs, Bangladesh 163/4 (Shakib 36, Sabbir 2)

Dhawal is back into the attack. Tries the bouncer at Shakib but perhaps harshly called a wide. Shakib then guides a slower ball betweenb Dhoni and Raina at a (very) wide slip. 9 from it. Shakib looks intent on seeing this through, playing sensible cricket. Even timing the singles from the middle of his bat.

10:12 PM (IST)

He does it so well, so often.

10:11 PM (IST)

After 30 overs, Bangladesh 154/4 (Shakib 30, Sabbir 1)

Could there be a twist in the tale? That run-out came out of nowhere and suddenly a little bit of pressure on Shakib to see this through. Also brings to end an excellent partnership of 54 runs. It all comes down to the wickets-column, that’s for sure.

10:07 PM (IST)

OUT! Dhoni’s effects the run-out in his inimitable style! A decent throw from deep-cover reaches Dhoni well ahead of the stumps but he flicks them on in an instant to catch Rahim short. We have seen this so many times from the Indian captain. Rahim gone, Bangladesh 4 down.

10:05 PM (IST)

After 29 overs, Bangladesh 151/3 (Rahim 30, Shakib 29)

Asking rate under 3 RPO, target under 50. Raina can only watch on helplessly as hosts continue to cruise.

10:02 PM (IST)

After 28 overs, Bangladesh 145/3 (Rahim 25, Shakib 28)

No fuss from the hosts as Jadeja’s welcomed back to the attack with 4 runs from his over. Dhoni running out of time, ideas and runs to defend.

10:00 PM (IST)

After 27 overs, Bangladesh 141/3 (Rahim 25, Shakib 25)

Raina into the attack. Shakib gets that one boundary for the over early on and its an easy 8-run over for the hosts.

After 26 overs, Bangladesh 133/3 (Rahim 12, Shakib 14)

As if to signal India’s threat in this meager defense is over, Rahim takes on Axar. Off the first two completely decent deliveries, Rahim gets 10 runs. A beautiful inside-out lofted cover drive followed by a huge six over long-on as the sweep found the sweet spot. Shakib adds the icing with a four off the last ball to make it 16 runs from the over.

Hosts need 67 from 21 overs. Looks like this is in the bag.

After 25 overs, Bangladesh 117/3 (Rahim 12, Shakib 14)

End of a probing ten over spell from Ashwin. 10-2-32-1. Excellent figures, no doubt, but Bangladesh will be the happier of the two sides with that. No damage done, and India’s best bowler seen off.

After 24 overs, Bangladesh 114/3 (Rahim 12, Shakib 13)

Axar continues with his good spell. His last 4 overs have gone for 11 after giving away 15 in the first. Continues bowling slower through the over.

Ashwin to finish his 10 overs from the other end.

After 23 overs, Bangladesh 112/3 (Rahim 11, Shakib 12)

Odd shot-selection by Shakib, taking on Ashwin from outside off-stump and trying to sweep it over mid-wicket. The top-edge falls safely in the cover region. Rahim, as if to tell Shakib its under control, dead-bats the last three balls with solid front foot blocks.

After 22 overs, Bangladesh 109/3 (Rahim 11, Shakib 9)

OH DEAR! DROPPED! A beautiful ball from Axar turns and gets the outside edge from Rahim but Raina and Dhoni left looking at each other. Axar doing well here after a bad first over but that was a bad miss, Raina had to react quicker, saw it late.

After 21 overs, Bangladesh 106/3 (Rahim 9, Shakib 7)

Shakib decides to take on Ashwin as the pressure was building a tad bit on the hosts. Two sweep shots – one just about saved from going to the boundary, the other does.

After 20 overs, Bangladesh 99/3 (Rahim 9, Shakib)

Where did that over come fro, Axar? In a move that will delight spin purists, Axar decides to slow it up and flight the ball a little more. The results: instantaneous. Just a single and a wicket.

OUT! Litton Das gone! Axar Patel slows one down through the air, pitches it up and Dhoni gobbles up the outside edge after a minor juggle. Bangladesh lose two set-batsmen in quick succession.

After 19 overs, Bangladesh 98/2 (Litton 36, Rahim 9)

In a slight change of tact, Mushfiqur Rahim takes on Ashwin too. Cutting a short ball against turn. 3 more singles in the over, mean 7 from Ashwin’s over. Slipping away from India here.

Undeniably so.

After 18 overs, Bangladesh 91/2 (Litton 34, Rahim 4)

New man, same strategy. Rahim goes after the short ball from Axar. One boundary per over is more than sufficient for the hosts. Ashwin needs support, and badly.

After 17 overs, Bangladesh 86/2 (Litton 33, Rahim 0)

A wicket-maiden for Ashwin. That off-spinner to beat Sarkar’s outside edge was a thing of beauty. A crucial wicket for India and gives them a way back into the match.

OUT! Sarkar gone and it’s that man Ashwin with the wicket. Beautifully set-up with a ripping off-spinner that drifted in and turned past his outside edge. The next ball keeps low, keeps straight and traps Sarkar plumb in front.

After 16 overs, Bangladesh 86/1 (Sarkar 27, Litton 25)

A big, big over for Bangladesh. Like we saw earlier, they are targeting everyone but Ashwin. Axar Patel is not spared in his first over either, as Sarkar slaps him over mid-wicket for a big six off the second ball. Litton Das then plays a pull shot and a classic spinner-sweep for two more boundaries. 15 runs from that over. Bangladesh cruising here.

And Axar Patel’s day goes from bad to worse…

After 15 overs, Bangladesh 71/1 (Sarkar 27, Litton 25)

And when you get a streaky four from Ashwin’s first ball, it makes things all the more easy. A classic off-spin takes a feather inside-edge of Litton and goes between ‘keeper and leg slip.  Ashwin gets good turn and bounce off the last ball that cramped Litton but fairly well negotiated by the batsman.

After 14 overs, Bangladesh 65/1 (Sarkar 26, Litton 20)

Very easy this for Bangladesh. Short balls outside off, straighter ones all being taken for singles. 5 from that over of Jadeja. Mature chase so far by the hosts.

Not clear where the confusion came from, but just to clarify the target is 199 for Bangladesh.

After 13 overs, Bangladesh 60/1 (Sarkar 24, Litton 17)

Another tidy over from Ashwin, but these tidy overs won’t take India anywhere. Bangladesh seem intent on not letting Ashwin dictate things. Clever batting from the Tigers.

After 12 overs, Bangladesh 57/1 (Sarkar 23, Litton 15)

Litton Das welcomes Jadeja with a brilliant slog sweep against the turn – not that he turns much – for a four. With an early boundary taking care of the requirted rate, Bangladesh settle for two singles after that in the over.

After 11 overs, Bangladesh 50/1 (Sarkar 22, Litton 9)

Ashwin back in the attack and Dhoni brings out the leg slip for Litton Das and the second slip for Sarkar. Just a single leg-bye from that over, as Ashwin continues to look like India’s best shot at a wicket. Almost sneaks one past Sarkar with a one that held its line, but the ball misses the off-stump by a whisker. Counts as a maiden for the bowler.

Jadeja into the attack now..

After 10 overs, Bangladesh 49/1 (Sarkar 22, Litton 9)

Litton started the over with a beautiful punch past midwicket for 3. Bhuvi then has a go at Sarkar with a slew of bouncers and short balls. They in-fact were convinced Sarkar edged a bouncer to Dhoni but replays show ball came right from the middle of the helmet. Sarkar, to India’s frustration, plays a good shot past point for two runs.

After 9 overs, Bangladesh 41/1 (Sarkar 19, Litton 5)

Sarkar living a charmed life too. Goes after Dhawal’s slower ball with a lofted on drive, which falls just wide off Mid-wicket and mid-on. Five other dot balls in that over.

After 8 overs, Bangladesh 39/1 (Sarkar 17, Litton 5)

Litton plays a beautiful pick-up shot over mid-wicket for a 4 off the second ball. Bhuvi comes back well with 4 dot balls, with a better line outside off. Litton brings out the “Dilscoop” but misses it completely.

Required rate is a comfortable 4.12.

After 7 overs, Bangladesh 35/1 (Sarkar 17, Litton 1)

A successful over from Dhawal Kulkarni and tidy too. Just a run and the crucial wicket of Tamim who was looking to go after the faster bowlers. Off-cutter seems to be the weapon of choice this series. Sarkar continues to play positive shots, a well-timed cut straight to point.

OUT! Tamim is gone, living far too dangerously. Dhawan takes a straightforward catch at first slip. Kulkarni slows it up and keeps it wide outside off as Tamim, down the track, reaches out and takes a healthy outside edge.

After 6 overs, Bangladesh 34/0 (Tamim 13, Sarkar 17)

Tamim gives Ashwin the respect that his form deserves. 5 dot balls followed by a single down to fine-leg. Nothing dangerous yet from Ashwin though. Bangladesh clearly going after the faster bowlers again.

After 5 overs, Bangladesh 33/0. (Tamim 12, Sarkar 17)

If you thought Bangladesh might take a cautious approach to a middling target, well, you thought wrong. Sarkar the aggressor here, as he plays a great cover drive on the up first and hoicks one over mid-on for a couple from the last ball. No play-it-safe here from the openers.

After 4 overs, Bangladesh 27/0. (Tamim 12, Sarkar 11)

Good start from Ashiwn. A mixture of faster ones and flighted off-spinners as Sarkar was beaten once in flight and mistimed a couple other. You get the feeling Ashwin is the main man if India can make a fight out of it.

More support for Kohli. This time Aakash Chopra.

After 3 overs, Bangladesh 24/0. (Tamim 12, Sarkar 8)

Tamim with more salt to the wounds. But nothing lucky about the two boundaries in that over. A pick up shot over wide long-on and a neat flick off his hips. Riding on the adrenaline here. Ashwin into the attack immediately.

After 2 overs, Bangladesh 16/0. (Tamim 4, Sarkar 8)

Well, well. What an eventful over from Kulkarni. To rub salt into the wounds of the aggrieved Indian players, Tamim plays a gorgeous cover drive and Sarkar gets a four of a leading edge that he had no idea about. “It’s all happening out there!” as the cliche goes.

And it’s given not-out. Bhogle doesn’t think so. Kohli doesn’t think so. Commentators don’t think so. But the man that matters decides otherwise. Crowd erupts! Kohli aggrieved. Tamim relieved.

Has Virat Kohli caught Tamim cleanly at mid-off? He certainly thinks so. But the on-field umpires think its not-out. Which means it has to be proved beyond doubt that he caught it cleanly.

After 1 over, Bangladesh 6/0. (Tamim 0, Sarkar 4)

Bhuvi with a tidy start. Both openers look a little edgy. Dhoni came up to the stumps for Tamim, to prevent him from dancing down the tracks like he did last match.

Just a short supper for the players, as the Bangladesh chase gets underway. Bhuvi to start proceeedings.

Are you impressed?

As impressive and exhilirating this performance has been from Bangladesh, this game is not over by any means. Not with four spinners at Dhoni’s disposals. Can Captain Cool do what he does best? Stay with us for the chase.

AND IT’S OVER! India all-out for 200 in 45 overs. Rubel Hossain gets his 2nd of the night, as Bhuvi edges a bouncer down leg side to Litton Das. Cue crazy celebrations from the crowd.

Meek performance with the bat by the visitors, but take nothing away from Bangladesh.

After 44 overs, India 196/9 (Bhuvi 2, Dhawal 0)

What a dream spell from Mustafizur. He had one ball left before the lengthy rain break and he makes it count. Jadeja cleaned up.

His figures: 10-0-43-6. Eleven wickets in his first 20 overs. LET THAT SINK IN.

And we’re back and HOW! Mustafizur had one ball remaining. And he uproots Jadeja’s stumps!!! SIX WICKETS for Mustafizur!!

There are fairytale starts and then there is this..

If a photo could ever sum up the mood, this is it. No captions required there. (Photo credit: AFP)

Details, details.

This is a 47 over game now. India still have 19 balls left to face. Or Bangladesh have two more wickets to take, whichever is earlier. The target will of course be revised after Indian innings is completed. Stay put, folks.

Here’s the official confirmation. Play set to resume by 7:45 pm IST. No word yet on over reduction and such.

Things looks more hopeful. Maybe we’ll have some live cricket on Sunday night primetime after all.

Alan Wilkins is the bringer of good news. Stay tuned for an official confirmation.

Seems like another inspection, coming up at 7:10 pm IST. Let’s see if the umpires can get around to finishing it this time.

The latest from Mirpur sounds like its good news. But let’s not get too excited yet. We have been here before.

As we wait for the play to resume in Dhaka, worth recollecting that Pakistan completed a memorable comeback in Galle to trump Sri Lanka in the first test. From 96-5 in their first innings to 92-0 in 11 overs in their 2nd to register a thumping 10 wicket victory.

Yasir Shah spins Pakistan to 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in first Test – Firstposthttp://www.firstpost.com

Right on cue, at 6:32, its pouring again in Mirpur. Going to be that kind of a night, folks.

That’s 6:32 PM for those of us in India.

The Mystery Cutter?

Good news (or not, depending on which team you support) from Dhaka.

Do not forget, there is a reserve day for all 3 ODI’s in this series. If a complete match is not possible today (i.e 20 overs for Bangladesh) the match will resume tomorrow.

Mohandas Menon doing the math, like he always does. And Dhoni will not mind that, you would think.

Look close enough and you might actually see cats and dogs. Pouring in Dhaka!

Manjrekar joins in singing the praise of Mustafizur.

RAIN HALTS PLAY IN DHAKA. Mustafizur will have to wait to finish his last ball as covers are back on. Looks like much heavier showers this time around.

Akash Chopra giving shape to a thought that’s on everyone’s minds.

After 43 overs, India 193/8 (Bhuvi 1, Jadeja 18)

A good over for India after what seems like an eternity. Jadeja cuts a short ball from Shakib through cover-point for a boundary. Nine from it. But move over, Shakib. The world wants to see Mustafizur finish his 10 overs. Will he get a six-for?

After 42 overs, India 184/8 (Bhuvi 0, Jadeja 10)

Its going downhill for India and how! The seamer has two five-fors, back to back, in his first two days. Only the second time this has happened in international cricket. SIMPLY EXTRA-ORDINARY.

OUT! FIVE FOR MUSTAFIZUR! And you know without me having to tell you that it came from an off-cutter. Deja vu for Ashwin – perfectly reenacted his dismissal from Thursday.

After 41 overs, India 182/7 (Ashwin 3, Jadeja 9)

A bit of a lull after the storm from Mustafizur. Mortaza goes back to Shakib after powerplay, and just three singles from that over. Everything going Bangladesh’s way in Dhaka.

Oh, if you are wondering about the “Batting” powerplay, India made 17 runs, losing Raina, Dhoni and Axar.

After 40 overs, India 179/7 (Ashwin 1, Jadeja 7)

WHAT. AN. OVER from Mustafizur. Dhoni gone and Axar follows his captain right behind. 4 wickets for the brilliant young left-arm bowler.

And two new men in today – Axar & Rayudu – both gone for ducks. Fair to say that’s not worked for India so far.

OUT! Mirpur erupts as Mustafizur is on a hattrick. Two in two and this one is a fast seam-up ball that traps Axar plumb in front for a golden duck. Take a bow, young man.

OUT! Mustafizur wins the mini-battle with Dhoni. The captain is gone for a slow-ish 47. Should come as no surprise that the wicket came with an off-cutter. Stops on Dhoni who lobs it tamely to short-cover.

After 39 overs, India 173/5 (Dhoni 47, Jadeja 7)

We are still waiting for the first boundary in the powerplay. Just four more singles in that over from Mortaza. Dhoni seems content on playing safe shots. Made up his mind to stay till 50 overs, seemingly.

After 38 overs, India 170/5 (Dhoni 45, Jadeja 5)

As the broadcasters go back to the previous game tape to discuss *THAT* shoving incident, Mustafizur completes another excellent over. Jadeja looking completely out-of-sorts. Takes a full-toss on leg stump flush on his pads off the last ball. Make that 7 runs in three powerplay overs.

After 37 overs, India 167/5 (Dhoni 43, Jadeja 4)

As it so often happens on good bowling pitches, the batting powerplay is helping the bowlers more than the batsmen. 3 conceded by Mortaza, making it 5 runs from 2 powerplay overs. Stump-to-stump from the Bangla captain, just as he has done all day.

After 36 overs, India 162/4 (Dhoni 43, Jadeja )

Mustafizur is back and guess what, picks a wicket of an off-cutter. Raina, to be fair, had enough time to read that short ball but tamely guides it into ‘keeper’s hands. Jadeja then survives a very close LBW call off the very next ball. That was an old-fashioned left-arm seam ball. Great start to the powerplay for Bangladesh.

OUT! Raina gone! Yet another off-cutter from Mustafizur, yet another Indian batsman failing to negotiate it. This one is pitched short, bounces at Raina who edges it to the ‘keeper. Not a great start to the powerplay.

After 35 overs, India 162/4 (Dhoni 43, Raina 34)

Raina pounces on a short ball and outside off and cuts through point – literally through the fielder there – for a 4. Seven from that Shakib over, as India head into the batting powerplay with two of their best finishers well-set. Should be an interesting phase this.

After 34 overs, India 155/4 (Dhoni 41, Raina 29)

Nasir Hossain has well and truly earned the respect of Indian batsmen tonight. He completes 10 overs in an innings for the first time in his 49-match career, says Alan Wilkins. Pats on the back all around as he finishes with 33 for 2. Well done, Nasir.

After 33 overs, India 152/4 (Dhoni 39, Raina 28)

Shakib back into the attack for just his 5th over of the day. Nasir’s spell means Shakib’s load with the ball is reduced. He does a good job too, unsurprisingly, keeping it tight and on the stumps. Raina stepped down the track once, but failed to connect.

Becoming a bit of a concern this.

After 32 overs, India 148/4 (Dhoni 37, Raina 26)

And the dot balls are back. Five of them in the over and a single, as Nasir improves his figures to 9 overs, 30 for 2. Drinks being taken in Dhaka with Dhoni and Raina looking to consoildate before the Batting Powerplay.

India 147/4 in 31 overs.

The singles and doubles are increasing in frequency as Dhoni and Raina get their eye in. Five from Taskin’s over. Partnership up to 37 from 9 overs.

India 142/4 in 30 overs.

Nasir Hossain is back in the attack with is part-time off spin. More of the same from him, keeps it slow and tight on the stumps. Dhoni’s brings out the afterburners in his shoes as he completed a double in no time, off the last ball in that over.

India 138/4 in 29 overs.

Taskin is back in the attack with a barrage of short balls. Raina and Dhoni play it out without much of a fuss. Raina, who’s worked on his pull shot in the recent past, manages to keep it down on the ground in that over.

India 132/4 in 28 overs.

Excellent line, excellent length, excellent accuracy. Rinse and repeat. Full and on the stumps from Rubel and just two runs from that over. Raina, staying low and walking into the forward defensive shots. A bouncer coming in the next over, you’d think.

India 130/4 in 27 overs.

The pressure was building on Raina and he releases it with an excellent lofted straight drive past Mortaza. Both batsmen striking at just over 60 per 100 balls. A boundary and a wide from that over.

India 125/4 in 26 overs.

It’s fast-bowling version of chalk and cheese from the two ends. Mortaza with gentle medium pace and Rubel follows that up with a fast, fiery over. First ball to Raina had him completely beaten for pace outside off. Dot balls galore in Dhaka, just a single from that over.

India 121/4 in 25 overs.

The fastest ball in that Mortaza over was 120 kmph. Accurate bowling, stump-to-stump. Just three runs and a very ambitious LBW appeal from that over.

Spot on there, Harsha. India badly in need of a big partnership.

India 121/4 in 24 overs.

Rubel with another good over. Seven runs off it but the boundary came off a bouncer that Raina didn’t know much about, top-edging over the ‘keeper. Good fielding off the last ball to prevent a boundary at mid-off too. Bangladesh well and truly on top.

India  114/4 in 23 overs.

The ball kept low in that over multiple times. Bouncers at one end, keeping-low at the other. Its a challenge for Indiam, alright. Nasir concedes 4 singles in that over.

India 110/4 in 22 overs.

Fiery over from Rubel Hossain with rising short-balls, full marks to Mortaza for his aggressive captaincy. Just a run from that over. The collapse seems very similar to the one on Thursday at this same venue. Raina and Dhoni will look to rebuild.

OUT! RAYUDU!  Oh boy, India in deep, deep trouble in Dhaka. The move to drop Rahane and bring in Rayudu doesn’t pay off. Rubel gets his first wicket of the match. Plays a rising short ball outside off staright to the point fielder. The crowd erupts!

India 109-3 after 21 overs.

Litton Das drops Dhoni but holds on to a edge from Dhawan. Excellent over from Nasir, 21-2 from his 6 overs. In walks Rayudu. Raina being held back.

OUT! Dhawan gone! Nasir Hossain bowling a gem of a spell here. Dhawan down the dravk but mis-reads the spin, Edges one to Litton Das, the ‘keeper. Could have been stumped too had he missed it.

India 104-2 after 20 overs.

It’s been all binary in the last five overs – just the one double – 0’s and 1’s dominating the timeline.

India 100-2 after 19 overs.

Something has to give here you feel. Dhawan showing a bit more intent but another tidy over. Nasir doing a Raina here, running through his overs quicker than it takes to live blog it.

India 100-2 after 19 overs.

Something has to give here you feel. Dhawan showing a bit more intent but another tidy over. Nasir doing a Raina here, running through his overs quicker than it takes to live blog it.

India 98-2 after 18 overs.

Dhawan’s fifty, but nothing much else happening. Both teams seem content to play this out. Will Dhawan get a move on?

FIFTY FOR DHAWAN! A very fluid knock from India’s opener. Not much of a celebration there, but he has looked in complete control so far. Raises his bat briefly, to barely a murmur from the home crowd.

India 95-2 after 17 overs.

Nasir running through his overs. Just three off that one. And that too after a careless overthrow. Good little phase for Bangladesh in Dhaka.

India 92-2 after 16 overs.

Spin from both ends, and you know what that means. It’s cap time for the Indian captain, and off goes the helmet. Shakib Al Hasan is into the attack. Tidy over, just four singles from it.

India 88-2 after 15 overs.

Dhoni plays another forceful cut-shot that flies to backward point boundary. Bit uppish but in the gap. Hossain conceded 7 in that over as Dhoni and Dhawan look to rotate as well.

India 82-2 after 14 overs.

Dhoni playing a waiting game there, playing out dot balls early then pouncing on a shortish one outside off that was smoked to point boundary. Followed by a quick double.

Meanwhile, in Galle, Pakistan pull off a stunning win over Sri Lanka. Remember when there were only 50 odd overs were bowled in the first two days? Remarkable comeback. Yasir Shah picked 7 wickets earlier and the Pakistani batsmen chased 92  without loss in an absolute canter – at almost 9 an over.

Well done, Pakistan!

India 74-2 after 13 overs.

A successful over for Bangladesh. Nasir trapped Kohli with a ball that didn’t spin an inch.

And Well, well. Look who’s in at No. 4 for India. Dhoni promotes himself up the order. Will it pay off?

OUT! Kohli gone! The spinner gets the breakthrough. Hussain traps Virat in front on his back-foot off a straighter one. Looks a good decision, but Kohli unhappy at something as he gives a long stare before making his way back.

India 73-1 after 12 overs.

World Cup hero Rubel Hossain into the attack. After four dot balls, Dhawan drives one on the up through covers for four. When Shikhar plays those confident shots on the off-side, you know he’s in good touch.

India 68-1 after 11 overs.

Spin for the first time today as the first powerplay is over. The off-spinner Nasir Hossain is on. Just three singles in that over. Dhawan showing intent, however, going down the track thrice albeit them being dot-balls.

India 65-1 after 10 overs.

Another excellent over for India. Mortaza is posing no threats with his off-cutters. Shikhar cuts a wide ball past point and comes down the track the next ball to punch one past cover. Two lovely shots back to back.

And before I could finish typing that, covers are off and players are back on the field. Play resumes.

PLAY STOPPED. Oh, a light drizzle in Dhaka sends the players off the field. Just a few overs earlier, it was bright and sunny. Rain continues to play a starring role in this series. Looks like a very minor delay however.

India 54-1 after 9. Big over, there.

Mustafizur stays in the attack for probably one over too many. Dhawan seemed to pick his slower one in that over. Kohli, after getting beaten outside off, dances down to pick a good length ball from just outside off and sends it over the long-on boundary. Follows that up with a wristy flick through mid-wicket. Again down the track. India’s main man is getting a definite move-on.

India 42-1 after 8 overs.

Kohli trying to get a move on, coming down the track to Mortaza. Makes just enough contact to chip it over midwicket for a four. Despite the watchful start, India maintaining run-rate of over 5.

India 37-1 after 7 overs.

Kohli does not look comfortable out there. Misses out on three over-pitched deliveries early in the over. And fishes at an angled delivery outside off that falls short of first slip. Dhawan looks in good touch, a straight-drive off the last ball for three makes it a decent over for India.

India 32-1 after 6 overs.

Captain Mortaza into the attack. Early freebie on the pads gleefully accepted by Dhawan. But 5 dot-balls mean another good over for Bangladesh. Finding it hard to rotate here, the Indians.

And yes, KOHLI DEFENDED A FREE HIT IN TASKIN’S PREVIOUS OVER. What a time to be alive.

Major mix-up in the middle, but run-out averted as the fielder chose the wrong end. Kohli wanted a third, Dhawan wasn’t even remotely interested. Dhawan pulls Mustafizur for a four. The left-armer’s off-cutter makes an appearance too. Kohli fishes for it outside off, misses the edge.

India 28-1 after 5 overs.

India 21-1 after 4 overs.

Taskin targeting Kohli’s sixth stump. A clear plan to target India’s star batsman’s weakness. Kohli does manage to get one over the point for four. Plays it safe otherwise. Cautious start from Kohli and India.

India 16-1 after 3 overs.

Dhawan has found some early timing. Striking from the middle of the bat. Back-foot punch through the covers in that over was excellent. Mustafizur showing some aggression as well, shying at the stumps when Dhawan stepped out. Follows that up with a beauty outside off stump that held its line to beat Shikhar. Good contest, this.

India 11-1 after 2 overs.

Long-ish 2nd over. Couple of wides in that over, couple of deliveries stopped in the run-up. Fiery start from Taskin, steaming in at good pace and a couple of short balls at Dhawan. Maybe with last match’s dismissal in mind? Dhawan did manage to pull one for four, for India’s first boundary.

Harsha Bhogle seems to think otherwise about Rahane’s exclusion.

INDIA 3 for 1 after first over.

Accurate start from Mustafizur. If India wanted to make a statement early on, well, its not worked out. Virat Kohli joins Dhawan as Bangladesh have started the game where they left off on Thursday.

OH DEAR!! Mustafizur gets Rohit off the second ball of the match! India 0 for 1. Good catch by Shabbir at point. Lazy looking cover drive from Rohit there.

Debut hero Mustafizur with the ball. Rohit and Shikhar take guard for India.

Will it be 10 in a row at home for Bangladesh? Will India bounce back?

As a confirmation, the playing XI for both sides:

INDIA XI: Dhawan, Rohit, Kohli, Rayudu, Raina, MS Dhoni, Jadeja, Ashwin, Axar Patel, Bhuvi, Dhawal

BANGLADESH XI: (unchanged)  Tamim, Sarkar, Litton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib, Sabbir, Nasir, Mashrafe, Rubel, Taskin, Mustafizur

Manjrekar seems to think all three changes are justified.

The fast bowlers who were carted around the park by Bangladeshi batsmen in the first ODI – Umesh Yadav and Mohit Sharma – are both dropped. Which is understandable. But more surprsingly, Ajinkya Rahane is left out of the XI too. Ambati Rayudu takes his place. Bit harsh on Rahane? Will Rayudu take his chance like he often does? Let’s find out.

Good afternoon, everyone. Welcome to Firstpost’s live blog of the 2nd ODI between India and Bangladesh. News from Mirpur is that Dhoni has won the toss and India will bat first. Some surprising changes to the XI from MS Dhoni.
