Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu is reportedly set to tie the knot with longtime boyfriend and former badminton player Mathias Boe. As per an NDTV report, the wedding will take place in March. The lavish event will be held in Udaipur. It is understood to be a close knit family affair. Pannu and Boe have reportedly been in a relationship for over 10 years.
As the couple work their way towards the big day, let us take a look at who is Mathias Boe.
Denmark-born Mathias is a silver medallist from the 2012 London Olympics and 2013 World Championships. During his illustrious career, which spanned two decades, Mathias teamed up with players like Michael Jensen, Thomas Hovgaard and Michael Lamp. Mathias’ combination with Carsten Mogensen particularly turned out to be quite fruitful. The duo won the silver medal at the London Olympics in 2012 and World Championships a year later.
Mathias had made his international debut back in 1998, partnering Mogensen and the duo had reached the final of their maiden tournament at the US Open 2004. Mathias was the oldest active player at the elite level at one point.
Mathias was a part of the Denmark squad that emerged victorious at the Thomas Cup in 2016. Mathias has won numerous Super Series events and won the prestigious All England Championships on two occasions (2011, 2015). The 43-year-old also won three straight World Super Series Finals (2010, 2011, 2012). Mathias has been the world number one men’s doubles badminton player as well.
Mathias’s partnership with Mogensen came to an end in March 2019. Following the split, Mathias decided to team up with his compatriot Mads-Conrad Petersen. Mathias announced his retirement from the international circuit in 2020.
“Throughout my career, I have demanded of myself that I would do everything I could to become the best badminton player I could. But I have not been able to do that lately. That is why it is time to stop,” Mathias was quoted as saying by The Badminton World Federation (BWF), back then.
