Paris Paralympics 2024: Sukant, Nithya Sre and Ramadass remain in bronze contention after losing respective semis

Kadam suffered a 21-17, 21-12 defeat at the hands of Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Suhas Yathiraj in an all-Indian men’s singles semi-final, and now faces Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan for bronze on Monday.

Sukant Kadam’s dream of fighting for gold on Paralympic debut in Paris came to an end with a defeat in straight games at the hands of Suhas Yathiraj.

Yathiraj defeated Kadam 21-17, 21-12 in an all-Indian men’s singles SL4 semi-final on Sunday to confirm his second consecutive medal at the Paralympics.

Having won silver in the Tokyo Games three years ago, IAS officer Yathiraj will be hoping to upgrade his medal to gold and stand on top of the podium.

However, it’s not the end of the road for Maharashtra’s Kadam, who can sign off with a bronze medal around his neck on Monday provided he is able to defeat Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan.

Later on Sunday (Monday in India), Thulasimathi Murugesan defeated Manisha Ramadass 23-21, 21-17 in the women’s singles SU5 category in what another all-Indian semi-final.

Murugesan thus advanced to the final while Ramadass will have to fight for bronze on Monday.

Joining Ramadass in her fight for bronze on Monday is Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan, who lost her semi-final clash against China’s Lin Shuangbao 21-13, 21-19 in the women’s singles SH6 semi-finals.
