New Racing Bulls driver Arvid Lindblad will bring his Indian roots to the Formula 1 grid in 2026. Here’s more on the Red Bull prodigy and his connection to India.

Another teenager, Arvid Gustav Lindblad, is set to join the Formula 1 grid next season, driving for Red Bull’s sister team Racing Bulls in 2026. Only 18, the British-Swedish driver would be the third-youngest in F1 history to compete in a race, most likely at the Australian Grand Prix in the season opener next year.

While it’s exciting news for Red Bulls Formula 1 family, it’s also happy news for fans of the racing event in India as Lindblad has his roots in Punjab. Yes, Lindblad was born to a Swedish father and an Indian-British mother in Virginia Water, Surrey, on 8 August 2007.

Arvid Lindblad’s India connection

Lindblad’s mother’s name is Anita Ahuja and his maternal grandparents were born and brought up in Punjab. Arvid was in India earlier this year when he visited the popular ivory-white marble mausoleum Taj Mahal, in Agra.

“India. what a magical place. Proud to have my maternal ancestral roots here. Look forward to spending more time here,” he wrote on Instagram while sharing pictures of his travels in India.

And it’s not just the connection that should sway Indian fans towards Lindblad, it’s his racing talent as well. Lindblad has been promoted to F1 to replace Isack Hadjar, who is joining Red Bull to partner Max Verstappen next year.

Lindblad would be seen racing at Racing Bulls alongside Liam Lawson, who has been.

Lindblad: A racing prodigy

An F1 race would be a dream come true for the British-Swedish driver, who has seen a meteoric rise from a very young age. By five, Lindblad was karting competitively at Daytona Sandown Park in Esher.

In 2019, he became a British Cadet Champion before winning the WSK Super Master Series in 2020 and the WSK Euro Series in 2021. He was signed by the Red Bull Junior Team at just 13.

In 2023, Lindblad debuted in multiple Formula 4 single-seater championships, challenging for titles in Italy, UAE and Euro 4. He finished the season by winning the Macau Grand Prix.

In 2024, he joined PREMA Racing in FIA Formula 3 and went on to script new records, becoming the youngest F3 winner with his sprint race victory in Bahrain and the first to clinch the entire weekend at Silverstone.

In 2025, he earned a promotion to Formula 2, competing for Campos Racing. His first victory came in the sprint race at Jeddah and he also won the feature race in Barcelona. Later, he was granted a special dispensation FIA super licence at the age of 17.

Lindblad also impressed with a sixth-place finish in Mexico in October this year while filling in for Max Verstappen in the F1 Red Bull car.

The incredible career growth has seen the teenager now earn a permanent seat in F1.

“Arvid’s rapid progression marks him as one of the standout young talents in the sport,” Racing Bulls boss Alan Permane said.

Lindblad would now hope to make the most of it and soon partner with Verstappen at Red Bull.
