India Grandmasters continue to make India proud globally and the latest feat has been achieved by GM Arjun Erigaisi who on Thursday became only the 16th player in the world to cross the venerated 2800 Elo rating mark. He is the second Indian to do so after the great Viswanathan Anand to surpass the coveted 2800 Elo rating mark.
Erigaisi crossed the 2800 mark in the live chess rating by beating Russian chess grandmaster Dmitry Andreikin with White pieces in Round 5 of the European Chess Club Cup. The 21-year-old from Warangal is currently on 2802.1 points and holds the world No.3 ranking in the live rating.

Erigaisi is also the third youngest player to do cross the 2800 points mark. The youngest is French GM Alireza Firouzja who achieved the feat at the age of 18 in 2001. World No.1 Magnus Carlsen is the second youngest. He got to 2800 Elo points in 2009, also at the age of 18. At that time Carlsen was the fifth player to cross the 2800 barrier.
Currently, he leads the list in live rating with 2831 Elo points followed by USA’s Fabiano Caruana (2805.2).

India’s D Gukesh, 18, who is fifth in the live world ranking with 2785.8 could become the next player to cross the 2800 mark if he continues his rapid rise.
