Chess history was made on Friday as Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi crossed the hallowed 2800 Elo points in the live rating with a win at the ongoing 39th European Chess Club Cup. The 21-year-old Arjun Erigaisi is only the second Indian after the legendary Viswanathan Anand to cross the 2800 mark.
Arjun Erigaisi achieved the feat after beating Russian chess grandmaster Dmitry Andreikin with White pieces in Round 5 of the European Chess Club Cup. Arjun Erigaisi also moved to the world No.3 ranking in the real-time live chess ratings after beating Andreikin and currently has 2802.1 points against his name.

The boy from Warangal, Arjun Erigaisi, was on 2798 points before the match against Andreikin.
He had a chance to cross the 2800 mark on Thursday after three consecutive wins in the 2024 European Chess Club Cup but a draw against Serbian chess grandmaster Alexandr Predke in Round 4 delayed the inevitable. Nonetheless, the Indian chess sensation got to the feat on Friday, becoming the third youngest player to do so.

The 18-year-old chess superstar from India, D Gukesh, is also very close to crossing the 2800 mark. He is currently on 2788.5 rating points after suffering a rare classic game loss against Andreikin in Round 4 of the European Club Cup 2024 on Thursday.
